CIO last night...(question)
Ok, so i took the plunge last night and attempted CIO with Jacob at bedtime. He is starting to finish the bottle before falling asleep so there is really nothing else i could do. I cant rock him for 3 hours.. So i put him down at 7:40... screamed.. sent DH in at 7:45... screamed when he left... sent him in again at 8:00... screamed some more when he left, sent him in again at 8:20... all was quiet from that point on.. it took 40 min. I cried the whole time, my adrenaline was pumping, my nervous system was going haywire..my heart was breaking in a million pieces.. but i made it!
My question is this.. he slept from 8:40 till 2:30, i fed him, he went right back to sleep at 3:00. Then he was up crying at 4, i went in to give his paci to him, then he was up at 5, same thing, and again at 5:45... Should i be ignoring him these times too? (other than the feeding)
I want him to just eat and then go down and wake up in the morn. Not 5 more times...will it get better as the days go by and i keep implementing it and being consistent? Its just so hard to ignore it during the wee hours of the night...Any suggestions??
Jacob is 19 weeks tomorrow... thanks..

Re: CIO last night...(question)
I used to do dishes when he was crying so I couldn't hear him and make DH listed for him. Other wise I would be so upset.
I would try not going into him when he fusses after you feed him. Chances are he will go back to sleep. This is what I do with Jack. Some nights I hear him at like 5 and he whines a bit and then goes back down. I also don't feed him at night, he has his last bottle at 5:30, then has cereal and fruit, then bed. He gets his first bottle between 6:30 and 7 am.
Hang in there!

Re: CIO last night...(question)
A few things - first of all, I noticed with Alex that if we went back into the room to comfort her it would send her into an even higher intensity tailspin of crying. When we implement CIO, we just let her cry in her room and if we don't go back into the room she falls asleep MUCH MUCH faster.
Second - give it a few nights - the first and second night are by far the hardest. After that, it gets better.
Third - I know a lot of people, when they start CIO they use it the whole night to get baby to sleep through the entire night. I didn't have the heart to do that. I used CIO just to get my baby to go to sleep at first. It used to take upwards of 2 hours of rocking to get Alex to go down for the night. CIO changed all that - we put her in her crib at 7pm and she goes to sleep. I gave that about 2-3 weeks for her to get used to before trying to eliminate any other feedings. I found that when we introduced CIO for bedtime, the other wakings followed suit without having to do anything. Once she learned to put herself to sleep at bedtime, when she woke during the night she would put herself back to sleep without any crying really. Within 6 weeks, all by herself, she went from waking 3-5 times a night to waking only once a night (I don't have the heart just yet to eliminate that last feeding!). I don't know if that would work for you, but it's something to consider. And make sure when your baby wakes during the night don't immediately run to him. Give him 5-10 minutes to go back to sleep on his own. Once he learns how to put himself to sleep at bedtime, he may suprise you and be able to do it for himself at all hours of the night!

Re: CIO last night...(question)
I think its important to be consistant. He doesn't understand why sometimes he cries and all he gets is a pat on the back, sometimes he gets fed, and then sometimes he gets a pacifier etc...
We have been sooo inconsistent over here this past week because we went out 2x and she woke while my cousin was baby sitting. She ended up taking her out of the room and putting her in front of the tv for an hour. I had to do CIO again last night to get her back on track.
