City Mom's- Stroller Suggestions??
I am trying to decide which stroller is the best for me in nyc. I am expecting my 1st in Dec.
I went to a small store in the city this afternoon and had them share the pro's and cons of Bugaboo Chameleon, Frog, Uppa Baby, and City Mini.
One Mother over heard our conversation and said " to not waste the $$ on the Bugaboo and City Mini is easier to manage".
The sales Guy ( who I am sure is on commision in this store) said the Bugaboo and Uppa are more comfy for the Baby b/c of the tires.
So for those who have BTDT, what would you recommend????? Is it worth the splurge for the Bugaboo for the city and which one?
Thank you so much for reading!!!

I only have the City Mini so I can't compare to the others but I LOVE it. It's light, has a huge sun shade, great wheels, easy to handle and DD loves it. She always seems so comfy and never complains when she's in it.

We have the City Mini and love it. It's very easy to fold and is just sturdy enough that it can go over some tough streets. We use it on the subway and push it around central park.
Everyone I know in the city has both a fancy bulky stroller and a lightweight. Most people have a Bugaboo, Orbit or Uppa Baby and then a City Mini or Maclaren.
We have the Orbit and City mini.

Sorry for the dumb question, is it easier to have both? One for using in nyc, and the light weight one for road trips, car, taxi, etc??

I walk everywhere with DS in stroller we live in ubran-ish area. The Uppababy is incredibly comfy, and easy drive on broken/dirty sidewalks, as well as good for sharp turns in aisles, even with the giant bassinet attachment. Its light! the wheels are amazing. It has a HUGE basket for all the stuff you buy.
I love our uppaBaby!
eta: I am nervous about dragging it on the subway, in case elevator doesn't work or something, the wheels make it hard to lug up and down stairs for sure.

there is simply NO WAY I would heave these suckers up and down the stairs.
none.
if you think you'll be taking the subway I would definitely look for something lighter weight.
something that can hold a newborn but that weighs less than 20 lbs.
if you don't take the subway much, it is less of a concern.
we used the Si once he turned 4 months. before that, I used either the snap n go with his car seat (the macclaren version) or I carried him, which is by far the easiest.
we use the snap n go most times when we are alighting from the car. it's so easy.
we also bought a super light weight Chicco for the summer.
save your money. those big bulky jobs are unnecessary, as lovely as they are!
ETA: I've lived in the city all my life, so I am not that concerned with the "manhattan" thing to do no offense to anyone. I just find that funny.

Most of the folks I know start off with a ~$1000 stroller that has an infant bassinet type thing. They use their bassinet in the beginning when the DC is an infant. Last year I saw more Orbits. This year I see more Stokkes. Once the kid gets a little older, they start using the lighter stroller. I think it is the normal manhattan thing to do. I don't know any moms who don't have one nice stroller in manhattan.
Suburban moms are different. I think the car seat/snap and go seems popular out there.

Thank you! I will look into those strollers too.
So do I need an convertible car seat too then for these strollers? They said the Graco snaps into these stroller.
What's the easiest way to get around in the city when getting in a cab or going to Dr's appt?? Do i bring the stroller with care seat adapter or just carry them in the car seat and use in the cabs?
Sorry....i know these are silly questions. I am the 1st of most of my friends and family to have a baby and only one to live in the city.

Re: City Mom's- Stroller Suggestions??
I don't live in Manhattan - but in London. We have the Bugaboo Bee and I totally resisted buying at first. I thought it was too dinky, wasn't as rugged as I wanted, etc. But it was the BEST decision we made. We picked it because it:
Faced in or out was useable from birth without extra bassinette attachment (don't have much storage!) Was super light Was super small (we fit ANYWHERE - restaurants, tiny shops, etc - with it) The carseat fits over the seat unit OR you can take the seat unit off and use it directly onto the chassis like a snap and go. Folds in one piece with seat unit facing either way
The only issue I have with it is that the seat doesn't go all the way up - in the highest position it's still reclined just a little bit, so that DS leans foward a little to see what's going on. It does just fine over most terrain, although I wouldn't off road with it! I'm on public transportation with on almost a daily basis - great on the subway, buses, trains, etc. We sometimes put the carseat over the seat unit if we're going to take the train to see family and will be picked up at the station, but know we will probably go for a walk once at the relative's house.
DS is almost a year old and it's seen us through this year very well. Hope that helps!

I'm a Manhattan mommy - space comes at a premium here so I'm strictly a one-stroller kinda gal. Also the first of my friends to have a baby so I can't speak to the "norm," or if there even is such a thing but I have a City Mini and I love it for these reasons as well. In the beginning, I used the car seat adaptor when I wanted to pop our infant car seat on it (didn't happen often since we're in Manhattan, but it was useful for when I did need to do this); otherwise, I just reclined it all the way back - DD was fine. We walk A LOT and this stroller handles great - I wouldn't trade it for another. For me, the only downside is that she can't face me in - unless she's in the car seat - but that's more than made up for by its weight, handling, etc. I see A LOT of these in my neighborhood - I do see many Bugaboos but more City Minis FWIW.

Thank you so much for reading!!!
I had the Bugaboo Frog and loved it for walking. It pushes awesome..amazing..it's a beautiful piece of baby equipment and IMO it's worth every penny (even though I bought second hand).
That said it will not be your only stroller. It's bulky doesn't close in one piece (although IMO it's really lightweight for a full size stroller) Most Moms that own Bugaboos/Stokkes/Orbits etc own a lightweight stroller like a Maclaren or City Mini. The Maclarens are good travel strollers, they push well and are compact but they are freakishly tippy. Hang anything off the back and take the baby out and the stroller flies back...it does get annoying. Also I would not put a newborn in a Maclaren unless it was the Techno version which is the most expensive but the only one with a deep enough recline for a newborn.
I've never owned the City Mini although everyone I know that has one loves it. You can buy a car seat adaptor but the seat doesn't reverse like on the Bugaboo, Uppa, Quinny, etc.
I have the Peg Perego Si as well as a Peg Perego Pliko P3. Both are suitable for a newborn but don't reverse. The Si pushes better than the P3 but the P3 has more features (snack tray, toddler step, etc)
Honestly if you are looking for one stroller that is compact and does well on city sidewalks I would tell you to check out the Bugaboo Bee. It pushes amazing also (although no air tires so not as great as the Frog) it folds in one piece and my favorite part which is very important to me is that you can have the baby facing you or out. It's cheaper than the Frog and Cameleon too, has a decent size basket and has an available car seat adaptor. I can see that perhaps being your only stroller especially since they have made the new versions with bigger seats (which was a complaint in the older Bee models). It has a funky look to it though so many people either love it or hate it.
Try going to Buy Buy Baby on 25th and 7th or Albee Baby which is on 92nd street. They both have a large selection and the sales people are knowlegable.

We have the indie bumbleride. I love the stroller it is easy to manage and glides on the sidewalks. I believe they have a new model where you can switch the handlebar so the baby looks at you or faces out. Also they included the car seat attachment.

Re: City Mom's- Stroller Suggestions??
i definetly recommend gettting a stroller with a bassinet attachment - my son slept so well on long walks in the bassinet - and it was easy to transfer him when needed because there aren't straps
plus we was so protected from the elements in the winter- i could swaddle him in a heavy blanket because there were no straps
remember the winter is a tuff time on strollers - i would get one with good wheels - i didn't get a bug and regret - i have to send by bumbleride to get repaired because the wheels don't lock anymore because all the sand that got in them over the winter

Re: City Mom's- Stroller Suggestions??
I've heard amazing things about the City Mini. I don't have one but everyone I know that has one loves it. I would have definitely gotten this had I known about it sooner. DD is almost 9 months and I am now using a lightweight stroller (Chicco Liteway) which I love. It reclines all the way, is easy to manuever and handles well. Before this we used our snap n go a TON but that is because we use a car often.
While I love all the fancy, big strollers it just wasn't the right fit for me. Sure it would have been nice to have for strolls around the neighborhood but I needed something to also work with me when running errands, taking subways, etc etc. I have a hard enough time with my lightweight stroller when I'm running around, I couldn't imagine with one of the bulkier ones.
Consider your lifestyle and what/how you will be using the stroller the most and make your decision based on that. And when trying them out, make sure you fold them up and try carrying them around as well. It may handle well and look sharp but it's not any fun when you can barely carry it .
And consider the following things as well: Will it be used mostly for strolls around the neighborhood? Will you be using the subways often? Will you be travelling in a car often? Space/Storage for strollers?
