Re: City people-question re: subways
I used to work at 42nd and 3rd Ave and would walk it 90% of the time (about 15-20 minutes), but I do remember taking the subway too and I would take the 1/9 to 42nd street and take the 7 train and it would let me off right near Grand Central. It's a shame its been more than 5 years and I cant remember it exactly.

Re: City people-question re: subways
I would take the 2/3, 1/9 one stop to 42nd and then take the shuttle to grand central. Exit GC at 44 and Lex and walk one block to 3rd. I think at rush hour that is the quickest.

I recently moved from 44th between 2nd and 3rd - This was my route if I didn't want to go outside ! It's the Red line - Otherwise, you could also just walk up to 42nd from Penn and catch the shuttle across town there (at 42nd and 7th) - It will take you into Grand Central and you just walk down the block -

Re: City people-question re: subways
I worked on 40th and lexington and walked, but once and a while i took the subway...from penn station, its better to take the E to 42nd street because the area that the E will let you out is closer to the shuttle to grand central (then walk to 3rd ave). Taking the 1/9 or 2/3 will take you to an area of 42nd street station that will be a longer walk to get to the Shuttle. Hope that makes sense. 42nd station is huge and still under construction and is like a maze. My suggestion is to be as close to the 8th ave line as possible. HTH
