City Strollers

Hi, crasher from PG here! I know I'm getting WAY ahead of myself - hey, I'm a researcher!

But let's talk strollers. For the city.

It seems everyone says you need a Bugaboo or a Quinny or a BOB, etc because they have the great air tires that make it easy to push on uneven sidewalks, etc. But those are the same wide-set tires that make it impossible to get on and off public transportation, a nightmare in tiny NYC shops and supermarkets and an accident waiting to happy to lug up to an apartment? So what do you think is most essential? Is it the ride/suspension? The weight? The bulk?

Thanks!

I think the ride is very important for the city, at least for us. We walk everywhere and some walkways are unnavigable with regular tires. Nice ride trumps fitting into a boutique for us. (I think most strollers would be awkward in a tiny boutique anyway, the Bug more than most.)

We've never had a problem with fitting the Bug on the bus or subway. It's very easy to get those big tires up a small step or curb. However, I won't do the subway by myself with the Bug unless I can take an elevator. We have a fold-up umbrella stroller too for that purpose.

Bumping this because I have the same question.

For me, seems to be that weight is the biggest concern because I have one short flight of stairs in our building that we have to take the stroller on and it's already cumbersome with the Graco Snap and Go that we use with our 5 month old DS.

We are leaning towards the Maclaren Quest Sport because it's lightweight and our nanny would be able to roll it down the stairs a little easier than the 30 lb strollers. But I know the Maclaren wheels might not take the wear and tear so easily.

Any one have any other suggestions for lightweight strollers (in the 15-20lb range) that have big wheels that make it easier to roll up/down stairs?

Well, I have a Bugaboo Frog and think it's great when we're just walking around (which my nanny does everyday) but we're on LI pretty much every weekend and then I hate it bc it's heavy and annoying to get in and out of the trunk. So I guess it depends on your lifestyle. We went and bought a Maclaren Quest last week because we couldnt imagine travelling with the Bug and the travel case for it was only $50 less than the Maclaren. The Maclaren is also easier when we go to a restaurant. I havent tried the bus or subway with either one yet but I will likely use the Maclaren for that too. We like it so much better now that we have two options!

Definitely a Maclaren....Techno or Quest. Lightweight durable easy to maneuver. The Bugaboo Bee seems to be light too. I think I'm going to buy one. I love the suspension and the fact that DD can face me or out.

I'm a city mommy, and I have a bugaboo. After 2 years though, its getting too big.

For the first two, it was great. We use it on public transportation (not the bus) all the time. When there are two of us, weused to detach the top part and one walks up with her, and the other takes the stroller. Now we just carry it in 1 piece. Even if I'm alone, someone always offers to help.

Thank you for all the tips! I think I am going to get the Maclaren Quest Sport - now if only I could find it in the color that I want!
