I think you do, unless you live in the suffolk part of farmingdale and places like that.
some exams might state exceptions

No you don't. I have friends who live int eh city and Suffolk who are NCPD. Good luck!

some yes, some no. the announcement will specifically state whether nassau county residency is required. DH got into nassau county as a contractor and after 3 months became permenant. However, if would like to take a promotionary exam, he would need to be a resident

For some exams you have to be a resident but some not. It will tell you on the exam page. When I lived in Nassau I took a few Suffolk exams and it wasn't an issue.
