Classroom Observation - I'm Back!
Hi Everyone!
My intiial instinct is to wear something nice. No jeans, no sneakers type deal. The other people in my class said they went in jeans and really didn't care.
What did you do?
I plan to student teach at this school at the end of the year but not actually work here. I won't live in this state long enough to work there but still...I want to do the right thing.
My Report: So, I took all of your advice and wore black slacks, gray sweater and black boots. I was actually a little bit overdressed compared to what the teachers wore but I felt good!
I watched a 3rd grade class for 3 hours and I was SHOCKED! It seemed like the teacher was filling time with games, silent reading and just stuff. There was no real lesson in the 3 hours I spent there and she just didn't seem very prepared. I might sound harsh and have never taught but it was my impression.
I looked around at the kids and wondered if I acted the way some of them did. Kids are so funny these days and it took everything in me to not laugh at some of the things they said and did.
She was a very patient teacher and chose her "battles" well. I need to work on that.

Re: Classroom Observation - What to wear?
IMO I wouldn't wear jeans or sneakers. I'd dress to impress.

I wouldn't ever do jeans and sneakers for an observation but I don't exactly do a suit either.
Regular "teacher' clothes to me would be fine- in my school thats a nice shirt, khakis or black pants and flats.

Re: Classroom Observation - What to wear?
i would definitely do more than jeans and a tee shirt... i would wear what you'll wear when you're teaching.. black pants and a nice sweater, or khakis and a button down shirt... especially if you plan to student teach there. and even if you don't plan on living there long enough to get a job, you NEVER know who might have a job "connection" for you in the future.you want to make a good impression. the other people in your class should think about that too

I would not wear jeans and sneakers. I would dress as you are expected to if you are working.

In my school we dress down..I am not going to lie BUT I already work there. If I were coming to observe I would still get dressed up.
