Yeah I think it's definitely the "norm" for this age range and it's Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon after a while. It definitely does get better, but if he's got teeth coming or an ear problem that'll make it worse... Also I noticed that sometimes I'd offer a snack and it would ELIMINATE the cling factor Chat Icon My DS's palate was all over the place so anytime I could get a healthy snack into him I was happy!

Take a deep breath...its only a phase. My DS was the same and now he is 18mths he s back to his sweet lovable self. They are learning so much and they get scared so they cling to the one thing they know and love - ie you until they are reassured - I know its a PITA...but this too will passChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

You just described Travis. I CAN NOT cook at all with out him up my butt. He wants to be held ALL the time. I must have stepped on him 20 times yesterday. I thought it was teething, since he has 6 teeth coming in, but after reading your post, I am thinking its a phase. Ugghh hopefully its not a long phase

I just wrote the opposite.

Although you and I are both in the same boat when we walk in the door. Yes, I still get the whining and wants to be held... yes, TV is the only distraction to calm him.

Sorry girl Chat Icon

14 months and DD turned into the same exact child you are describing. I get nothing done all day. She literally hangs on my legs. Fights to take a nap, won't go with anyone but me, refuses to go to bed at night. Chat Icon Glad to see i'm not alone

Re: Clingy and needy at 14 months!! WT F!!!!

DS was like that from 11-14 months. very uncooperative, clingy, whiney, tantrums....the whole thing. For the past month (knock on wood) he is suddenly much better. Don't have a clue why, but I'll take it. DOn;t get me wrong, he still has plenty of bad moments and bad days, but overall he's much calmer. So I'd say it's definitely a phase. I just hope the "bad" phase doesn't come back now that it's gone Chat Icon

Re: Clingy and needy at 14 months!! WT F!!!!

Linda what is the worst thing that will happen if you sit him in front of the TV for an hour or two?? He'll be *gasp* HAPPY?? You'll be *gasp* SANE???

OMG you are a horrible mommy for even considering that!! Chat Icon

It's totally a pahse and even mellow Luca went through that.

USE the TV. It's not forever. He'll be better equipped to calm himself and entertain himself more soon. And GET OUT OF THE HOUSE. Plop him in the stroller and walk him around the mall. I swear I did that every weekend for a few months straight. Chat Icon

dude, I wish tv would work.

what I do, especially while I am cooking and give him a bunch of pots and utensils. a throw stuff in the pots and he "cooks" with me. then I lift him up to see what's on the stove and he says "hot" "hot" and sometimes I let him stir. Chat Icon

ORRRRRRRR...

I hand him over to his father. dada plus soccer ball= 15 minutes for mama to do what she gotta do!

Re: Clingy and needy at 14 months!! WT F!!!!

Thank god this seems to be just a phase, I'm hoping will pass in a few months. TV doesnt work for longer than 2 mins. I could only put him in the highchair with some snacks for 10-15 mins, but I hate doing that. I wish he would play by himself for just a little while so I can get some stuff done, like dinner started. He is alwayssssss up my butt!

Oh thank God you posted this. Emerson will be 1 in 2 weeks and about 2 weeks ago is has been nothing but "HOLD ME" ANd whine whine whine. OMG I don't have a moment where she's not hanging on my leg.
I've even had to cook while holding her a few times (something i do NOT like doing) but seriously, i've tripped and landed on the countertop b/c she's literally in between my legs.
She used to be soooo good while we were out in public, she's such a nightmare now! I dread taking her anywhereChat Icon
TV used to work and now she just whines and runs to me. It's definitely teething. I just came back from the Ped (i thought her ears were bothering her) but nope.

ANNNDDD i have #2 on the way. Lucky meChat Icon
