Clip art for creating visual cues/charts at home

Has anyone done this? What websites do you use?

Our parent trainer and the social skills leader suggested I make a poster (which DS will help me put together) with DS's daily routine using visual cues (wake up, eat breakfast, get dresses, brush teeth, putting on back pack, getting on bus, school, etc.). They feel this will help with the transition of going back to school after being out for 3 weeks plus it is a new school, new kids, new teachers. I want to prepare him as much as possible.

do2learn.com is a good resource.

Also, I am sure his teacher and/or speech therapist would be happy to assist you.

It sounds like you are taking a very pro-active approach to helping your son. This will help him tremendously. Good luck! Chat Icon

I take actual pics. I laminate them (I bought a laminating machine). Then I have removable vinyl magnetic sheets (on the fridge, his magnetic easel). I have some sticky velcro that I put as a "line" across the vinyl and velcro behind the pic and voila...Chat Icon

How many pictures do you put up at once? I was thinking about making a row for morning, row for afternoon and row for nighttime.

Here is what I printed out pictures for:
Wake up
Eat breakfast
Brush teeth
Get dressed
Get school bag ready
Bus to school
Bus home
Play
Eat dinner
Shower
Brush teeth
Get PJs on
Bed

Do you think that is too much??? I did print out pictures for the potty but I didn't know if that was necessary since he goes when he needs to on his own.

You can't put a whole day.

I would not put more than 4-5 activities.

Like mid to late afternoon:
- Snack/drink
- TV (limited to a certain time)
- Playing with mommy

Early evening:
- Dinner
- 1 TV show or play with daddy
- wash hands/brush teeth
- Bed.

I don't do morning but they do it in school already so I give him a break

Otherwise I would do:
- breakfast/milk
- watch 1 tv show
- get dressed
- put coat on for bus

Yeh I think I may be putting too much.

I wanted to get the Velcro for the back also and figured I could have him put them up and take them down depending on the day.

This is what i was going to say. We did this as a communication system for DS for a while to help him identify pics & activities. We used our own pics or clipart I found online. Just so you know, the cheapest way I found to laminate was Staples. They do it for you- I think it's a 8 1/2 X 11 sheet for $1. I precut the pics into little squares and they place & laminate. The velcro I got with a 40 or 50% off coupon at Michaels. HTH!Chat Icon

I set the schedule/activities. Not him!

I can only imagine what he would do. Like set up snack/food/tv activities all day long. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I got a laminating machine. I made his flash cards, etc... In the long run, it was cheaper with all the stuff I laminated.

I agree with everyone above - I like to use real pics - this is a great age we live in - thank God for digital cameras!!!

I agree with Sophie - break your day up into routines - a morning routine, an evening routine - or a dinner routine, bedtime routine, getting ready for the day routine... etc.... take pics while he is doing the routine - or have your husband take pics while doing it with him.

I highly recommend you check out books and blog by Linda Hodgdon - she outlines using visual strategies PERFECTLY!!!!!
