Clipping cat's claws
God help me. My 5 yr old Lincoln has never had his nails clipped. They are sooo long I hear them on the hardwood floors. I don't want them to curl under and become ingrown. Has anyone cut their cat's nails? I'm scared..I know he won't like it! Or should I take him to the vet? Here he is!

Re: Clipping cat's claws
Your cat is a cutie!!
I've never done it, my husband's practice does it all the time, as I'm sure all vets do. Give your vet a call, ask them if they can give you some step by step instructions, you may want that stuff on hand that stops the nails from bleeding if you go up a little too high.
Also, find out what your vet charges for the clip, if it's cheap enough, you may just want to bring your cat to your vet.
Good luck!

Re: Clipping cat's claws
i cut my cats nails pretty often. Is your kitty ok with you handling his paws? Get a clipper from a pet store and try just one nail, see how he reacts. good luck!

Re: Clipping cat's claws
I try to do it myself. She really doesn't like it so maybe I get a few done at a time, but it's not that bad. I tend to not cut them nearly as short as the vet b/c I'm afraid I'll hurt her. Our vet always does it at her check ups and he is able to do it soo quick.

My guys are front declawed (I didn't do it - it was already done when I adopted them). I just wanted to say what a cutie Lincoln is

Thank you. He's very very vocal and has a distinct personality...very cuddly too.

My Maine Coon is very vocal too. We were away for the weekend and he kept telling me how upset he was with us all last night
