Clomid and monitoring
For anyone that did take Clomid I have a few questions...
Did you O regularly before Clomid? I am pretty sure I do and I don't want to mess with nature...
Did your Dr monitor your O or did you just do it the Ol fashioned way(OPK's)
TIA!!

Re: Clomid and monitoring
I always O'd naturally before we tried Clomid and I was monitored meanign like 1-2 visits but we used OPKS to get the exact O date.
My Clomid was along with IUIS though.

Re: Clomid and monitoring
I didn't O regularly without Clomid. My regular OB had me chart for the four months he had me on Clomid and I had a clear ovulation pattern. When I went to the first RE, they continued me on Clomid for three more months and monitored me with sonos which also showed a follicle clearly growing and released.

So did you get sonos to tell if you were going to O? Or you used OPK's for that? Also did you do a trigger(I guess this is hcg right)

See when I charted my temps did raise but just .3 or .4 degrees. I also have had my O date change over the past yr from cd 14 to cd 16 or 17. The Dr thinks I have weak O causing m/c.

Re: Clomid and monitoring
I didn't O until CD19 to 22 even on Clomid. I only found out recently that I had blocked tubes, so no amount of Clomid would have helped me anyway.
They say that the Clomid will strengthen your O, so maybe that is the case for you. I know a friend of mine had that problem and she got PG on her first month on 50mg. of Clomid. She now has a healthy 4 year old boy. Hopefully, that will resolve your problem just as easily.

Re: Clomid and monitoring
I ovulated regularly but have luteal phase defect. On Clomid, I go for a sonogram and then get an HCG shot to bring on ovulation.

I also O'd naturally. I was monitored before I started it to make sure there were no cysts, then on about CD10 to see what was growing. We went in for IUI when the OPK was positive. I never had a trigger shot during that protocol.

Re: Clomid and monitoring
I used OPK's to get O date. The 1-2 visits were to make sure I didnt get TOO many Follies on the clomid or cysts....and no Trigger ...

Re: Clomid and monitoring
I o'd on my own before it, but for the IUI, the Dr. wanted me on Clomid to help with the production of more follicles (it worked, I had a few on the right, and two major ones on the left).
I went in after 4 days on the Clomid for a sono and blood, then every day after that until they saw the surge in the bloodwork. I also got a surge on my own, but they decided to do the trigger shot to pinpoint O more closely.
HTH!

Re: Clomid and monitoring
I didn't O regularly. My RE put me on Clomid and scheduled me to come back about a couple of days after my last pill to see if any follicules are present. They also tell you went to start using the OPK's..so in the case we did both the sonogram and the opk's.

Re: Clomid and monitoring
Hey, I just saw this so I'll answer anyway, since we're both seeing L and I've done Clomid with him.
I was ovulating regularly w/o Clomid. He put me on Clomid on day 5. He had me come in on day 12 for a sono. I know I don't ovulate until day 16 or 17, so I would just come in around day 15 or so again and he'd do another sono. I never had to do the Ovidrel to ovulate, I always tested with OPKs and called the office when I got a positive. He'll still send you for bloodwork just to be sure you're going to O.
HTH!!
When did you start the Clomid?? I'm going to be starting on Thursday, just wanted to have a buddy this cycle!

Re: Clomid and monitoring
Hey Lauren,
I think it may be too late to start this cycle because he wants to wait on the results of my biopsy before prescribing Clomid. He also has be doing a 2 hr glucose tolerance test to check for PCOS and may put me on Metformin. So I gues that will be next cycle? Or maybe Metformin now if i need it and then Clomid next month. I am concerned after talking to a friend about the Clomid thinning my lining, so I may discuss other options. I'll keep you updated

Re: Clomid and monitoring
Have you used Clomid before? Usually Clomid thins your lining after multiple months of usage...the repeated dosages of Clomid cause thinning of the lining and may cause cysts, which is why most Drs. won't use if for more than six months at a time.

Re: Clomid and monitoring
I know I am kind of late here. I use the same Doc as Lauren. I was NOT ovulating before Clomid. So this helped me, I am also on Metformin (although, not sure what good it does, I am not good about taking it since it makes me feel not so great)
I have been following your story a bit...what did the doc say Clomid will do for you to help you?

Basically he thinks the reason why I have recurrent m/c is that there is something wrong from the beginning of my cycle. My hormones are never high enough to produce a strong O. So I am producing eggs but not high quality ones. Clomid with produce more follies and eggs therefore raising my progesterone. The highest my progesterone has ever been even in pregnancy is 15(which is low IMO-some Dr's will say its fine but in my experience it has been a bad sign) I've been researching it a bit and there ae many women that have done this and had a healthy baby but thats the hard thing with RPL. You could have many m/c's and then have a perfect pregnancy with no help at all. So sometimes these "solutions" get the credit but were not really what helped. Hope I ewxplained that OK. I am still new at the pharmaceuticals! Congrats on your news though!!
