Clomid Question

Can Clomid delay or speed up ovulation?

I have a pretty normal cycle and I'm expecting to get a positive opk by tomorrow (I hope) In the past I've always gotten my positives in day 12 or 13 in the evenings. I usually start testing on day 10. The nurse gave me my little calendar and advised me to not to start testing until day 12 (which is today) in the morning (not first urine though) I got a a negative today but I'm worried that I may have missed my surge since I've always began testing on day 10 and did it in the evening.

Am I being paranoid??? Should I just test this evening to see if it comes up positive and then again tomorrow morning? If I don't get a positive by tomorrow then I'm going to think that I may have missed my surge but I'm reading that ovulation can sometimes be delayed with Clomid.

Thoughts anyone?

Clomid Question

do you have any other issues? like PCOS? because the first thing my RE told me was to NOT take OPK's because PCOS messes them up.
Clomid doesn't delay or speed up ovulation. Itonly increases the size/amount of mature folicles in a cycle. Are you being monitored at all by a RE? Because if you are seeing one, they will tell you when you are about to ovulate via a sono and that's when youeither go in for an IUI or do TI. If your just doing Clomid on your own, I would highly suggest seeing an RE because if your OBGYN gave you a script for Clomid and just told you to take OPK's i would be weary. your not being monitored at all at that point and you could be one of the women who could suffer from all sorts of complications like OHSS

Re: Clomid Question

I am under the care of an RE. So far all findings have been normal for me. This is my first round and I will be going for an IUI within the next few days I hope. They felt that I didn't need to go for the sonogram right before the IUI this cycle because they feel that there is no underlined problem with my ovulation from what they can tell so why bill more. I had asked too if I was supposed to come in for monitoring but the nurse said no. I had my cycle day 3 sono and then began the clomid 50 mg on day 5. My last pill was this past Sunday I'm assuming it should be soon. There is a slight motility/morphology factor with DH but neither one of us meet the criteria for our insurance to go for IVF just yet. We must go through 3 failed IUI cycles and then he must repeat his SA before even being looked at for IVF. We have unlimited IUI coverage and this will be our first so we are doing a clomid assisted IUI as opposed to a natural IUI.

I'm just so nervous...timing is everything ugh

Clomid Question

Clomid never changed my cycle one bit. I think it depends on the person.

Re: Clomid Question

Clomid changed my cycle so don't freak out! I always had 27 day cycles and was charting/ using ovulation kits for a year before seeking an RE and I always O'd on day 11 like clockwork. 1st cycle on clomid, I O'd day 13 and had a 29 day cycle and 2nd cycle on clomid I had no high fertility on the kit but went straight to peak and O'd day 15- had a 30 day cycle.

What I recommend is to test in the AM and PM- the last cycle I tested in AM and had an empty circle then tested at 5:30pm and had peak fertility. I came on here to ask for help and the girls recommended I call the nurse on duty about setting up my IUI- I'm so glad I did b/c they wanted me for my IUI the next morning.

Also, the job of clomid is to produce multiple eggs but also to extend your luteal phase so it can throw off ovulation by a couple days.

Good Luck!

Clomid Question

I'm surprised your RE didn't have you go in for monitoring. Thats really the only way to know for sure if the Clomid is working. God forbid you miss it on your own, but you wouldn't have if you had an extra sono.
Wishing you lots of luck on your cycle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Clomid Question

I know, I was a little surprised too that I didn't need to be monitored, but they do not suspect a problem with me ovulating on my own. We shall see. But on a good updated note, I got my positive opk tonight so I didn't miss my surge!! Phew!! First thing tomorrow morning I call to schedule my first IUI Chat Icon

The nurse is probably going to yell at me for testing in the evening though when I tell her about my positive! I just didn't want to miss my surge! LOL

Re: Clomid Question

Clomid caused me to grow follies super fast and usually triggered around cd8 instead of cd14 of a regular cycle. If I didn't trigger, not sure if I would have ovulated on normal cd14.

Re: Clomid Question

thanks again everyone…..Had the IUI done this morning…DH's post wash motility was not good but we did it anyway (GHI requires 3 failed IUIs before we can even be looked as candidates for IVF)….IUI will probably be a fail…along with the next 2 cycles…...feeling pretty defeated…….Chat Icon
