Closing - Walk Through Question - regarding Pools
Hopefully we will be closing on our house in June or July, but we don't know if there pool pump works or not. The bank appraisel was done already and it's still closed. The question is, would you be able to turn the pump on to see if it works during the walk through? Or can you not turn the pool pump on unless you are going to open up the pool for the summer? Sorry, we never had a pool before. TIA!

Re: Closing - Walk Through Question
I'm not quite sure, but I'm sure a good inspector could tell you.

Re: Closing - Walk Through Question - regarding Pools
if the pool is open you can test the pump. If it is not open, I would insist that they open it for the inspection or leave money in escrow. the previous owner offered to open the pool and I turned him down. There was a huge rip in the liner when we opened it and we had to replace the whole liner. It ended up costing us $2800.

Thank you! I will keep this in mind prior to the closing.

Re: Closing - Walk Through Question - regarding Pools
The house we are currently buying has an inground pool and we made it clear to the sellers that we wanted the pool opened before we closed so we could inspect it. Alot of pool service companies do offer pool inspections but they get pricey (in NJ it ranged from $325 to $375 with tax added). We went to the house recently after they told us they opened it and DH looked at pool and felt the pressure of water flow to get an idea.

our sellers invited us over when they opened it to show us how it worked and that it did work

They should keep money in escrow for you until you are sure the pool is working. Good luck!

Re: Closing - Walk Through Question - regarding Pools
The seller may not want to hold escrow for the pool and if it wasn't part of the contract then they aren't obligated to do so. I would require that the pool be opened. We bought a house with an inground pool and the sellers wouldn't put money in escrow because the pool was so old. We bought the house with the pool as is. I would try and get them to open it prior to closing.

Thanks everyone! I will have to read over the contract. I don't remember what is in there. Thanks again everyone!
