Closing as a Seller
Did you go to the closing? If you closed on Monday - were you out on Sunday or Monday? (We don't plan on going to the closing and don't plan on staying in the house past the closing date - just wondering about the day of)
When do I shut off my lights, water, gas, ect? Does LIPA, National Grid, ect come to do a final reading before everything gets changed over to the new owners?
How much time, if any did you take off from work to pack/move/unpack?

Re: Closing as a Seller
We went to closing to sign all the papers. We stayed in the house nearly 2 weeks more because we agreed to close early so the buyers wouldnt lose their lock in rate but it was with an agreement that we would stay until X date with no payments made to the buyers.
I dont think we took time off to pack, we got PODS because we were going to be living with my ILs for a few weeks until we close on our new house so we just packed a little each night after work and on the weekends and moved out on a weekend day.
Just call the companies with the date you will be MOVING out. In some cases the buyers will have also called so they will be aware, but they know how to deal with all this so its a smooth transition.
ETA: because we were living with ILs we also moved in slowly so I think we took maybe a day or 2 off to actually move in to our new home when the time came.

Re: Closing as a Seller
We should be closing on Tuesday if the stupid buyer's bank ever confirms that this date works. Anyway, we will be there.
We already moved out though. We were going to wait and stay and close on our new house at the same time, but the buyers were very eager to close and we have a place to stay in the interim (my in laws), PLUS I am paranoid that in this economy one of them could lose their job and completely ruin the entire thing, so we are closing early.
We are leaving the electric and water on.. the account just gets transferred to the new owners once they take possession. We did disconnect the cable and phone though.

Re: Closing as a Seller
We didn't go to the closing..we signed our paperwork and dropped off keys and such at our lawyer at our convenience, then he did the closing a couple days later.
We were out 2 weeks before..date kept getting pushed...i turned all non essential utitlies-phone, cable etc..the day we moved out...rest was the day before the closing.

we just got a quote for about $160 a month, that was with AAA and the home depot discounts, plus it's $65 each time the deliver the pod (we have to have it delivered, moved to the ILs, and then delivered to our new house, so that is $65 each time).
ETA: i am fairly sure it's an 8 x 8 x 16.
