Clothes Question-I am soo confused- DO you go by...

Height? Or Weight? Or Both?

I'm so confused. DD is 28 1/4 inches long and 18.5 lbs at 1 year(at her 9 month appt she was 17.5lbs and 26.5 inches)-A peanut! She has short little legs, but a long torso.

BUT she is at the end of the height range for most 12 month clothes but no where near her weight.

For her birthday I got tons of 18 month stuff where the height starts at 29 inches but the weight starts at like 22 lbs.

What do I do? Get her 12 month stuff or keep the 18 month stuff so it takes her through the whole summer? Any help?

Re: Clothes Question-I am soo confused- DO you go by...

its always a guess!! every store seems different, and esp after u wash the clothes and they shrink anyway! ugh! DD is 10.5 months old (about 30 inches and about 20 pounds) and i have a few 6-12 months and 12-18 month to take her through the summer...the 12-18 month pants are def too big, but i always roll the waste and if they are jeans, i roll them so they look like capris....i know that isnt much help, but just know they they grow a lot slower after 6 months, and so i know the clothes i have gotten for her for the summer will last the summer....she isnt going to shoot up 5 inches or anything....as far as the fall and winter, im leanging towards 12-18 month size for pants and 18-24 months tops....and shell probly be in 18-24 month pants around january....

DD is long and skinny. She will be 9 mths and has been in 12 mth clothes for a few weeks now. The 12 mth clothes are big on her around the waste and chest but they are the right length.

I would go by her measurements and not by her "age".

Also, when you buy clothes buy for whatever is the "biggest" part on her. Like since DD is thin, I buy clothes by her length so it fits how it is suppose to.

With the summer coming up I would stick to 12 months if it fits better in the waist since she will probably be in capri's, shorts, skirts and dresses mostly. DS is 24lbs and 30inches tall he is in 12-18 month cloths. I think 18 months is going to be to big for her. I put some 18 month stuff on him now and it is a little big as far as shirts. The pants are too long him.

Ugggh! I have the same problem too since my guy is a peanut. He's 11 months old and at his last checkup he was 17 lbs 14 ounces but then lost like half a pound cuz he got sick with a virus. But anyways he's also 28 1/4. So I would go by height as long as the waist fits him.

I started going by height/weight also since Aly is a peanut too. 16 mths old and she's only 31 1/2 inches long and 22 lbs 9 oz and most of her stuff is 12 month still (unless it runs small like Old navy or sonoma)

I can't even look at the chart because it's never really right with Steven.

He is in 12-18 month clothes right now. He is 19 1/2 lbs and 27 inches at his 5 1/2 month appointment. So, judging by those measurements, he should be in 6-9 or 9-12. He can get away with the 9-12 clothes but the 6-9 clothes are skin tight! Chat Icon

Re: Clothes Question-I am soo confused- DO you go by...

Since her torso is so long, I am going to keep the carters 18 month stuff=jumpers and stuff.

Does anyone know how Kohls stuff, dresses run-big or small?

Sonoma, miniwear and old navy shrink like crazy, so i will keep those.

She got tons of stuff from Macy's, I don't know brands I don't shop at macy's for her clothes. Do they run big/small/shrink?

Re: Clothes Question-I am soo confused- DO you go by...

Wow DD and my DD are the same weight and height (28 1/2 long) at 1 year. Two peanuts. I'm in the same boat, but I have alot of 12 months stuff and that seems to be fitting well. Carters stuff fits well and some stuff from target. I'm not sure about Kohls, she has a few outifts from there. JcPenny stuff is always huge.

I would stick with a few 12 month stuff for now, just based on my daughter.
