Clothing gifts
Since DD was born on May 4, I've been getting tons of clothes as gifts... all summer outfits. But some people got me items as large as 6-9 months!
I feel bad b/c I don't think that DD will be in 6-9 months sized clothing even by August when she will be 3 months old. I feel bad b/c some of these outfits are so cute... and some people bought like 5 outfits - all in these bigger sizes. I'm trying to use some of the 3 month outfits, but they are huge. 0-3 fits her best for now, but there are still plenty of newborn things that still fit her at about 7 weeks old.
why don't people just buy one 0-3month outfit and then give a gift card. I'm going to have all these unworn summer outfits and come September/October, I'll have to go on a baby shopping spree b/c she will have NOTHING to wear. I feel really bad if people spent money and the tags never even come off.

Re: Clothing gifts
I think we can all relate, unfortunately. It is frustrating, some people just don't think or try to calculate age/sizes when they're buying seasonal stuff.

Re: Clothing gifts
DD was big (born weighing 9 lbs, 12 oz), and we actually appreciated the clothes in the bigger sizes! She almost never wore newborn sizes, and I only kept her in 0-3 month outfits for a couple of weeks. By 2-3 months we had her in 6-9 month sized clothing! You never know how big DC will get too. They grow so fast in the first few weeks/months.
If you have gift receipts or the tags are still on, I'd recommend returning things NOW. The longer you wait the harder it is to get any $ back for them!

ITA ....maybe if you know where they came from you can try and return them? or just save them if you plan on having another baby...if you end up having the the same sex maybe they will be the right time of year then.

Re: Clothing gifts
People always think babies grow super fast. My DS was smaller at birth and was pretty small/average the whole first year and my DH's family in Florida bought him 6-9 summer clothes when he was 3 months old (super cute stuff too!) Luckily we went on a cruise and he wore them once (for pictures) then I gave them to my friend.
But people are being generous, I really wouldn't look any gift horses in the mouth!

Re: Clothing gifts
About 3/4 of all clothing gifts my Dc's never wore.
A lot of people bought items in bigger sizes for the following year... well, DD grew faster than expected and DS is smaller than expected.
It's such a waste. Even with gift receipts I had no time to run around to stores exchanging.
Even now, I wish people would call me and ask their sizes instead of guessing. My brother bought them two expensive Mets outfits for their birthday... way too small and no gift receipt... a big waste

Yeah, I'm not sure what's up with the "big baby" thing. I prefer her not to gain too much weight... average is good. She's very long and that's fine, but people really like the chub on babies... I personally am glad she doesn't have much "baby fat". She has what she needs and that's enough fat to lose later.
I'm actually very appreciative of the gifts... not looking a gift horse in the mouth at all... My problem is I feel BAD that some of these clothes may never be worn and people spent money. Some of the outfits are gorgeous and I wish I could put her in them right now. I even have had people tell me they want pictures of her wearing their gift - not sure how I'm going to pull that off! I'm sure they won't remember, but still, it's the fact that in these times where most people don't have that much excess - they spent money and the clothes may not get worn. I guess I can donate or give to friends who have kids next summer that may fit into it. I may also save it in case I have another girl. I just felt that at least with a gift card we can get her what she needs when she needs it and the money gets put to good use. I hate wasting money and to me this is worse - it's wasting someone elses well intended money.
Just me feeling guilty.

Re: Clothing gifts
I'd try to exchange them for the same outfits in the right size. This way, you don't have to worry about getting the lowest sale price in a store credit if you don't have a receipt.

Re: Clothing gifts
DS is 5 weeks old, and just out growing preemie sized clothes, and starting to wear newborn. People have given us tons of summer outfits in 0-3 and 3-6, I dont think he will be wearing the 3-6 before the summer is over, its sad to see these clothes go to waste, they are all so cute, but he just isnt fitting in them anytime soon.

Re: Clothing gifts
At my baby shower, I got tons of 3-6 month summer clothes. DS is 6 weeks and wearing 0-3 months, I doubt he will be in 3-6 months before the cooler weather comes. I plan on selling them to Once Upon A Child in Seaford if that time comes. I would like someone to get use out of brand new baby clothes.

Re: Clothing gifts
I remember getting a ton of 3-6 months Summer clothes but DD was still in 0-3 well into the fall last year. A lot of it came from the Gap so I was able to exchange it (after arguing since I had no gift receipt) for 0-3 months. I'm glad I did since they were really cute things! What are the brand names? Maybe we could help you figure out where they came from and you can exchange them for the appropriate sizes.

Re: Clothing gifts
When buying gifts, I always get the next size up but for the next season. Jeremy was always a size bigger than his age (at 3 months, he was in 6 month clothes). I would rather get something the baby can grow into than something they have already outgrown.

Re: Clothing gifts
I am in the same situation. DS is 9.5 weeks old and has quite a few 6-9 month summer outfits. I have been returning or exchanging whatever I can. Babies R Us takes it back if they seel it. Kohls has been good too.

Re: Clothing gifts
I agree its frustrating to let this stuff go to waste. We have bags of stuff we gave away b/c she never wore it and we have no idea where it came from.

Re: Clothing gifts
People assume that you will get a lot of 0-3 month sizes at the beginning and they think they are doing you a favor by giving you bigger.
You never know what will happen. My DS was a preemie and for a long time he could not even wear the 0-3 month sizes. Then suddenly, he was able to wear 3-6 and 6-9. He was not in 0-3 for very long.
The only person who kinda ticked me off was someone who gave us a gift when he was 6 months old and it was summer clothes in 0-3 month sizes and summer was still a few months away.
