Clothing sizes???

Hi ladies!

I bought a gift for a little girl who will be 2 in November. I bought her two outfits, one that's a 4T and one that's a 5. I don't really know what that means or what's appriopriate but I figure the bigger the better? By the way they are shirts and skirts.

Thanks a lot for the help I am totally clueless about this things Chat Icon

Re: Clothing sizes???

I only have a 3 month old, but I think those are way too big.

I think the rule of thumb (or how I always heard it) was to buy the same size as the child's age. She is probably in 24 month clothing unless she is tall or very big.

HTH!

But to add, we got outfits in 3T and 4T while I was in the hospital with DS.

Hmmmm okay that's what I was afraid of. Do you think it's bad to get those sizes at this age? What do the Ts stand for?

Re: Clothing sizes???

I think you should be ok with those sizes. Kids grow quickly - so if they don't fit now, they'll fit soon. It's always nice to have clothes for the future!

Re: Clothing sizes???

Those sizes are very big for a 2 year old. Can you ask her parents what size she's in? She most likely will not be wearing 4-5T for years.

Re: Clothing sizes???

You probably should take them back and get a smaller size. Typically those sizes are for a 4 or 5 year old. Yes she could eventually wear them, but what fun is a gift that you can't use for a couple of years?

I also would take them back. The childs in a 2t or 3t at most. The problem with extended sizes is that it could end up in the wrong season as well. Definitely look for 2t or 3t.

Re: Clothing sizes???

Okay thanks so much for all your help. So you think for 2T I should get winter clothes? That means 2 year old?

I think it depends on the child so I'd ask the parent. My niece just turned 2 and it depends on the brand but she wears anything from a 4T-childrens XS..so you'd be on target. She is tall for her age. To be safe - I'd stick to 3T or 4T for fall/winter clothes for a 2 year old.

It depends on the child, it would be fine to ask the mother what type of clothes and size the child needs. My daughter is 2.5 and still in 24 months, but my son is 12 months and will be in the same size very soon.

I love when people ask, so that I can tell them what we need. It still gives the gift giver the chance to pick out something they like, but they also know that it's something the kid needs and will get use out of it.

Re: Clothing sizes???

I would ask the parents. My Niece wore a 4t at almost 6 years old....But like a poster said some wear it younger, but overall, I highly doubt the kid is wearing that big a size unless its a bog kid. Take it back and get the 2T which is bigger then a 24 month size if you cannot ask the parents.

Re: Clothing sizes???

Or you could just keep what you bought and give it to her with a reciept, so that if it's too big or small, the parents can return it for the proper size!

Okay, forgot to mention, the problem is she is in France and they have different sizes (and stores for that matter). I think I am just going to return the clothes and bring a toy Chat Icon

Re: Clothing sizes???

Totally depends on the child. I have an almost 3 year old that still wears 18-24months shorts, but 4T shirts since he is tall and skinny.
