Isreal did strike the Beirut airport, but struck the runways, not the airport itself. And, it was in retaliation because apparently, lebanese guerrillas raided the Israeli northern border, captured and kidnapped two soldiers and killed eight others. This hits home for me because my husband, who is Israeli and served in the Israeli army, served at exactly that location on the Northern border.
These kids they kidnapped and killed are just that - 18 year old kids with moms, dads, sisters, brothers. It ticks me off to no end how the media always makes a huge deal out of Israeli attacks but gives little to no coverage of the attacks made on Israel that give the impetus to Israel's action. Not too mention, Israel's attacks are usually targeted to avoid innocent civilians, which is exactly the opposite of what Lebanon and Palenstine attacks intend. Just a few months ago, there was a bombing on a bus in Tel Aviv - my cousin was severely injured and hurt, and will be disfigured for life.
Sorry for the long post... this topic touches a nerve for me.
