CO for your home
Does anyone know if you receive a copy of the certificate of occupancy when you purchase a home? the town says I can buy a copy for $100! I need the copy to give to the town! It makes no sense to me

We received a fax copy from our lawyer before we closed on our house. Did know if we needed an original or not.

I wonder if I can get it from my lawyer -- if they keep the files - I bought the home 2 years age this week

Worth calling the lawyer you used and see if they have it. GL!

Re: CO for your home
When we bought our house the homeowners never got COs for the work that they did. So they had to get them before we closed and we got the original copy at the closing.

Re: CO for your home
If the house has valid C/Os, you should be able to get a copy from your attorney. It would have shown up in the title report.

Re: CO for your home
Our sellers didn't have a CO for a sunroom added to the house, and it took 9 MONTHS of fighting with the Town of Hempstead in order to get it. We have the original.
