Co-op apartments and neighbors cats???

Hi we are closing soon on our new co-op apartment and went to the inspection today. We found out that our future downstairs neighbor has 2 cats (although I did ask the seller before we put a bid on the place if there are ANY cats, and she said there are no cats!!!) well my husband is deathly allergic to them (we will be sharing the front door and carpeted stairway), has anyone been in this situation? and if so does the cat smell or dander come up to your apartment? or better yet do your allergies act up although the cats are downstairs in a different apartment??? We are really concerned due to DH's allergies.

TIA

Re: Co-op apartments and neighbors cats???

We have a condo with a shared hallway, and all the other residents who share the hall have dogs except for us. You do smell the dogs, especially when it is wet out. I don't know if indoor cats would be the same.

We do smell smoke from them smoking, which really bothers me. I am allergic to smoke and my eyes and nose really act up when they smoke in the living room and it goes in the hallway, or when the smoke comes through the bathroom vents. But they are allowed, so what can you do...

We live in a Co-op and in our building we are only allowed to have cats. I don't think you will have a problem with the dander and the smell coming into your apartment. We can't even smell our neighbors' cooking inside our apartment.

JMHO, as an allergy sufferer, I wouldn't take the chance.
