co-op board interview

Hii guys -- we have our co-op board interview next week and I'm nervous about what to expect.... is this something DH wears a suit to and you get dressed up for? What should we bring with us? What questions should we expect to definitely be asked?
Thanks! :)

Re: co-op board interview

We dressed nicely for our interview.
They're just going to ask you questions about your financial situation, your job situation, those sorts of things. The interviews are to make sure you're not bad people.
Good luck!!

Re: co-op board interview

DH and I both wore suits to our interview, but I think dressing business casual is fine. We brought extra copies of everything we already sent over to the co-op. We actually weren't asked many questions - just some basics like where we work, do we have any pets, etc. It was not really an interview - it was more that he was explaining all the co-op rules, etc.

Re: co-op board interview

i would go business casual..(we did)

the board interview is just to put A and B together.

A, they already got your finincials and know what you make, if you can afford it etc..

B, as far as seeing who you are, they just want to make sure you not "aholes" and would fit in with the community...

After knowing Part A, they gonna know if they want you as most things in life are about money...

Re: co-op board interview

It's sort of a formality, sort of not. You have to ake it seriously, becasue they can still deny you. But as long as you are both good, normal people, you have nothing to worry about!

It is and it isn't - They want to know if you will fit into the complex, i.e. won't disturb your neighbors with loud parties - etc. I know that many places do turn people down although I think they approve more than they turn down - so do take it seriously.

I am nervous.... I hear they can reject you without reason.... we are approved for our mortgage and will have the clear to close by the interview... we're nice, quiet professionals with good jobs who are hardly ever home.... but this is stressing me out!

Re: co-op board interview

I think it is a formality but more and more coops are denying people. Chat Icon

We live in a gated coop community and I have to say my coop interview was a joke. I was a young & unemployed student & my uncle co-signed (since he lives closed than dad) and they made him drive up for the interview. The committee was made up of retirees and a few people from my would-be floor attended. They did not really ask me anything except confirmed the name of my grad school. They mostly asked my uncle about his military background (Vietnam) and about fishing tripsChat Icon Chat Icon

That was a number of years ago and I hear it's much harder now to get approved. My coop is not known for denying people but there are a lot of coops that are notorious for denying people. Ask your realtor - s/he should know something about the board for your would-be coop.

I am on my co-op board, so I can tell you business casual is absolutely fine. Most of the time if you get to the interview you are 3/4 of teh wya through. The financial piece is a HUGE issue.

We spend most of the interview going over co-op policy and rules. Some actually test you on the house rules, so make sure you have read them.

DH wears a suit to work and is coming straight from there... and I have a nice skirt with a jacket on.... is that too much? I dont know, I always like looking nicer even if it turns out to be casual
