coccyx (sp??) bone and pushing...

Did anyone break their tailbone prior to being pregnant?? I broke mine 2x as a teenager and I've been having alot of pain down there for a few weeks. The dr said it's very possible to rebreak it during pushing. Has this happened to anyone???

Yep...It happened to me. The pain was worse then any of the other pain from my delivery. I My DS will be 7 moths this week and I can still feel the pain at times. What really stinks is you can't do anything about it. Sorry you are going through this!!

my daughter actually broke my tailbone as I was delivering her, with mt most recent pregnancy my tailbone ached but it actually made delivery easier, my doc referred to it as the "barn door", it never shuts it just swings open.
It will never totally heal and I can tell you that it did not fuse until I stopped breastfeeding at 1 year old.

I have broken my tail bone 3 times before i was PG and they took my little one by c-section because it was a concern that i may break it again during labor. I was glad i had a section for that reason and other medical reasons but a broken tail bone hurts soooo bad i could not imagine having to deal with that and a new baby as well.

I broke mine while in HS and didn't have any problems during delivery.

I broke mine during delivery and when the epidural wore off I was in excruciating pain. I couldn't sit or stand. It's now over a year and it still bothers me that I can't sit in certain positions for long and sometimes I can feel a shooting pain. I'm dreading what will happen when I become pregnant again. It really took the joy out of having a baby because I was in so much pain for the first few months. Chat Icon

Re: coccyx (sp??) bone and pushing...

I had some problems with my tailbone during the delivery of my son, when they took x-rays and MRI's it looked like it was bent funny...it was sooo painful to sit and get up. I went through a couple Dr's and some physical therapy and the only thing that helped was a shot in my tailbone of cortisone and some sort of steroids, that worked for a few months and then it hurt again. The Dr. told me that one way to fix it would be to have another child... I thought he was joking....but, after I had Mallory it's fine nowChat Icon My chiropractor explained it to me as when we are pregnant our bodies excrete hormones or something that makes our pelvic and hip bones a little more flexible for delivery and maybe that made my tailbone go back into place....wierd!

ETA - I had broken my tailbone back in college when I fell down some cement stairs!

OMG I'm so happy you posted about this. I'm pretty sure I may have done something to my tailbone in delivery. It's been 11 days now and it is sooooo hard to sit and to get into a standing position.

Is 11 days a long time or do you still think it's just from the labor and will heal soonChat Icon
