Cognative Behavior Therapists.

Has anyone ever been to one? I'm thinking about seeing one about my insomnia.

Has anyone ever done this? Is it worth it? Thanks!

Re: Cognative Behavior Therapists.

Hmm, thanks.

I actually have one technique since that's what dh is going to be... he has this relaxation tape that i've listened to a few times. It's help calm me down before bed a few times when i started getting really anxious.

I'm running out of ways to deal with this, and it's really affecting my job... It's hard to teach when all i want to do is curl up on my desk and have the kids watch another movie.

the one guy i found in this area isn't on my plan, of course, because my insurance blows.

Re: Cognative Behavior Therapists.

basically they teach you how to redirect your thoughts to the point you tire out and fall alseep

I deal with anxiety as well and it really depends on how strong the anxiety is, if it is going to work..

They teach a lot of deep breathing, muscle relaxation, visualization...etc

I have tried everything. Tapes, expercise, yoga etc etc

in the end it is how well you can redirect your thoughts and that will vary on the day.

It really s*cks living with this...

Re: Cognative Behavior Therapists.

Also yo dont necessarily have to go to a cognitive therapist to deal with this.
Most therapists are trained in the techniques

I would go to a therapist that helps you most with your anxiety as a whole..

Re: Cognative Behavior Therapists.

It's not falling asleep i have trouble with, it's staying asleep.

The cd i have has to do with breathing and muscle relaxation. Tightening and then releasing, etc.

I feel like so many people have this problem. All this stress and lack of sleep is just not good.

Maybe I sleep in June after school is over. Chat Icon

Good Advice! As a therapist, I use all different techniques depending on the situation.

YUP...me as well

well actually i have both issues are different times...

But the most irritating is waking up at 2:30 am and feeling your heart and mind race

For me ...the muscle relaxation was a joke....never did anything

Seriously, counting works much better

Or i play alphabet games...

Re: Cognative Behavior Therapists.

i sometimes have problems falling asleep. but that happens maybe once every 2-3 weeks... where as waking up between 230 and 4 happens almost every weeknight.

Do you just count backwards? And what kind of alphabet games work?

I've also tried having paper on my nightstand to write things down, which has helped a little, but not really well.

At this point i'm willing to try just about anything Chat Icon
