Cohens children developmental pediatrician dr. Narayan review

After waiting 4 months for our appointment we finally saw dr. Narayan. I was very comfortable with her. She seemed to listen and had reviewed information I sent prior to our appointment.

At 6 years old my son was diagnosed as ADHD by dr. Alturu. During this past year - 3rd grade- he has started to talk to himself during class. Not schitzophernia type talking..really it's mostly about TV shows he watches. I decided to see a developmental ped because I didn't think dr. Altruru listed to my concerns.

He is not on any meds yet. Dr. Narayan thinks that he does not have ADHD but an anxiety disorder. Talking to himself is self- soothing. She said Adhd meds would increase his anxiety because they are stimulants.

Anyone have experience with anxiety disorders?

DS is a lot younger but I definitely think he has anxiety and I know it runs in the family.

I can't say enough good things about Cohen's and feel they are worth the wait for that initial appt.

DD has high anxiety. We also go to Cohen's and I love them. We just yesterday went for a neuro psyc evaluation pushed for by our district for a second opinion and the result was exactly the same....High functioning autistic/aspergers, severe pragmatic language deficit and high anxiety. Social groups and once a week cognitive therapy was recommended. Getting her to learn how to manage her anxiety and to give her coping tools are the top of the priority list. Once she is able to do this, the rest will fall into place, well as best as they can : ). It is a long road though as we have been working on coping strategies for a long time and still aren't even close. Having a good team work with her and guide her through school has been an immense help.
