COINDRE HALL
just wanted to remind all those that go to coindre and those planning to go to the GTG to make sure to bring a leash. they have REALLY been cracking down lately and WILL give you a ticket ($50) if your dog is not leashed.
we usually do not leash our dogs but always have the leash on hand. as long as you can control your dog and act quickly when they come, you won't get a ticket. the park goers are really good at warning all if the cops are spotted.
they were there on sat but not yesterday.
not to scare, just wanted to warn.
ETA: i got a ticket 2 weeks ago. stupidly left the leash in the car. LFitzy79 got one this saturday. i arrived while the cops were there so thankfully i didn't get a ticket. apparently everyone else got a ticket though.

Re: COINDRE HALL
So, am i correct in thinking this isnt really a dog run?? im sorry but ive heard so many thigns that makes me NOT want to bring my dogs there. imo, it sounds very unsafe and not like a very good place for a doggy meetup
and who is scheduled to go ?

Re: COINDRE HALL
you have the wrong impression. awesome site. HUGE open field, woods and a beach at the bottom of the hill. everyone is SO friendly and the dogs LOVE it. as mentioned, the area is not fenced. i have no reservations (other than the spot checking by the cops) recommending coindre.

Re: COINDRE HALL
Jes, it's a dog park, not a run. The whole thing is that the town was going to put a run in, a fenced in area, but the neighbors didn't like where it was supposed to go, so the whole thing got put on hold for the last 3 years. There is an organization (LI-Dog) that is working with the local officials to get it taken care of, it just hasn't happened yet. People in the neighborhood have been bringing dogs to Coindre for the last 20+ years. It's a great space, big open sprawling field, there the harbor if you dog likes to swim. I don't know why the cops have been on a role lately, but in a year of taking Gus there this is the first ticket I've ever gotten.

Re: COINDRE HALL
i guess its mainly the fact that its not fenced in that worries me. my guys are so little they are out of sight in 10 seconds flat.
and then theres the cop thing....
so are the dogs supposed to be kept on leash then?

since thats what they are giving out tickets for, I say yes, keep them on a leash. I would keep reesie on a leash regardless.

Re: COINDRE HALL
Ah I take Ebs to the park every single day - (Belmont). There is a leash law but I just keep my eyes peeled. If I see a cop I put him on the leash, that's all. But I also trust him and know he won't go far from me.
So I am good with Coindre, looking forward to trying a new park!! And meeting all the pups of course..AND their owners.
I would say if you aren't comfortable with your dog off the leash then keep him on. It's your own decision.

Re: COINDRE HALL
I have been through the same situation at Blydenburgh and Gardiner's. As long as you have the leash handy and the dog will come right to you, there isn't a problem. I am looking forward to Saturday and I know Misty is looking for good weather so she can torture all the other pups!!
She was warming up tonite with some doggies around the corner, so she is goood an ready!

hmmm. I may have to pass on this one. Hope you guys all have fun!
I hope no one misunderstands, but cresteds can get hurt really easily if they get caught in a leash. Have fun & post lots of pics!

Re: COINDRE HALL
Oh, they did this last year around this time. It's so sad. I used to take my dog there all the time, but switched to the run in E. Northport b/c of the ticketing situation. Sorry to hear it hasn't gotten any better.

Re: COINDRE HALL
I just dont feel so somfortabel letting Tiger run loose in a big open field, I would feel better if he was fenced in and had some boundaries he cat cross.

i agree. it is totally safe despite all the various breds and sizes. if you have any reservations keep the dog leashed until he/she is comfortable w/ the surroundings.
