cold in a newborn?
Hello everyone, I may be overreacting, but I am very worried about my daughter, who is only 2 weeks old, catching a cold. We had a baby nurse with us last week, and when she went home for a day off, she called the next day saying she had a cold and fever. I am so worried that my daughter could have caught it, especially since at 2 weeks infants have very little immunity. I am breastfeeding, and so far she has no fever. She sneezes a lot, but I am not sure if this is normal? I keep thinking that if she catches the cold, she may get very sick. Does anyone have expereince where a newborn caught a cold and did not have to go to the hospital?

Re: cold in a newborn?
Newborns are often stuffed up in the beginning. However, I would call your pediatrician just to be on the safe side.
I'm sure it's probably regular newborn stuffiness but it's not something I'd want to be wrong about.

Re: cold in a newborn?
Ds had a cold when he was a couple of weeks old. He didn't run a fever, so I didn't bother taking him to the Dr., but I did call him. he said that as long as he didn't have a fever than there was no cause for concern. He was very stuffed up and had lots of sticky buggers. The Dr. just said to run a humidifier. That's what we did and it cleared up in a couple of days.

I just wanted to add that my son is 3 wks old - and he sneezes a LOT - he has since I took him home... the dr. said thats normal - thats the only way they can clear out their nasal passages at this age....
