Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery & Aquarium
I was wondering if anyone has been to this place. I was looking at the website and I think DS might like it. Just wanted to know what other moms thought of it.

Re: Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery & Aquarium
we go every now and then but mostly b.c it's close by and something different to do. i won't lie-if it were far i wouldn't bother..but it's a cute place to visit. if your kid really likes fish or aquatic creatures then it's worth it. we just go b/c DD loves to throw the food into the big fish hatchery ponds. the fish go crazy and jump up to get it. there are some turtles there too to watch. inside there are a bunch of reptiles/amphibians to look at in glass tanks. thats all we've ever done there so other moms might have more to say about what you can do there. cold spring harbor and huntington are nearby so you can visit those towns to walk around in or get kunch since the hatchery is pretty small and takes less than an hour to see. hth

If it takes less than an hour and it probably is not worth it for us to drive all the way from brooklyn. We are looking for something to do as a family and/or a place to spend the day & have a picnic.

It's cute, and my kids like feeding the salmon but it's only about an hour or so and not worth the drive from Bklyn IMO.

My kids like it.. I go as a group sometimes with the moms in my other meetup group. Very easy for me since I live about 2 miles down the road

I agree with the others that it's probably not worth the drive - but you could couple it with a trip to the Whaling Museum.
Depends on the age of the kids but mine loved it. They also have different activities planned during the summer. You can stay, grab some dinner in Huntington, etc.

Since it is only about an hour thing, I think we will probably pass on it for now. Does anyone have any other ideas to do with the family? DS insistes on going out that day for a picnic.

Maybe do the fish hatchery, then, head over to Hecksher Park in Huntington for your picnic. Gorgeous playground, you can walk with the kids around the pond and just hang out. Im trying to remember if there are picnic tables. I want to say yes, but, not 100% sure. Hecksher Park is really nice though.
