has anyone ever heard of this and if so do you know anyone that has gotten this procedure done? basically its a procedure that cleans out your colon.

they talked about this on Z-100 a few months ago.

I am dying to try this. I am looking to find a reputable place either in the city or on the island.

Re: colonics

You can give yourself an enema and pretty much get the same results and you won't have to leave the privacy of your own home.

A colonic cannot be even compared to an enema. They said the colonic really cleanses your colon completely. If you have fat belly, afterwards, you will have none. And even lose some weight.

Re: colonics

I know someone who had this done, and I was looking into it myself but chickened out. There is a place in Hicksville, but they didn't call me back (thank God, lol). Also a woman in Lindenhurst who is a member of the National Colonics Board or something like that -- I will try to find the info for you.

Basically I was reading a book about a woman who has the same trouble TTC as I do, and she went for colonics and then she got pregnant! Well there were a lot of things involved but I thought it might be a good idea - fortunately my problem has been solved so I am not looing into it anymore.

Re: colonics

My girlfriend does it, in Westchester. She swears by it. She goes often too. She said theres some cramping but only if you ate a lot of sugar. The Clinician told her that it can be painful/crampy if you consume a lot of sugar. But otherwise she said its great and is trying to get me to go for my IBS, but Im too chicken.

I actually did a colon cleanse from a kit I bought online. OMG...it was awesome. I am addicted. I never felt so great in my life. I had chronic stomach aches for two months, one week taking these fiber shakes and pills, viola...all gone.

I have never had them done and as will be afraid to do .
I imagine that if someone is considering to do this, they will make sure they check the place out and make sure everything is sterilized...not only for this place but any medical office visited as well.
I also have heard that if the person is thinking of doing them, they should very lightly days prior to avoid all that cramping and not eat meat but only vegetables. But I can't really say anything about the discomfort of this because I've never had it done.

There are no dumb questions....Chat Icon
Here are some answers that I found online to the same question you have....Chat Icon

One of the main differences between a colonic and an enema is that an enema uses the force of gravity for the water to enter the colon, which means it is not easy to regulate (to know what the pressure/comfort level is of the client) and also the enema for the most part addresses just the lower colon. A colonic (with the more sophisticated equipment) utilizes controlled pressure for the flow of water entering the colon which often keeps it more comfortable for the client - on the equipment is a gauge to regulate the pressure and to know when to release. The release with a colonic stays in the enclosed system, whereas with an enema the release is on the commode.

Another view:
---A high enema uses a long rectal catheter that is threaded into the colon about 20 to 24 inches. The remainder of the process is similar to a regular enema which uses a short catheter and about 2 quarts of water that is held for 20 minutes.
---A colonic uses a speculum about 4-6 inches in length and is the use of temperature controlled water under a slight bit of pressure. The water is released once the client begins to feel pressure. This process is repeated throughout the colonic process. It is a gentle flushing of the colon.

And another:
A high enema is an old term [now at least 20 years outdated] to describe a modern-day colonic. An enema is a session where water is introduced into the large intestine to capacity and the patient holds the water for a period of time, then releases, generally into a toilet. In a colonic, there is a continual flow of water that is introduced in small amounts into the large intestine and then material loosened by the action of the water is allowed to be eliminated. So it is more of a lengthy washing process over the span of 15 to 50 minutes, depending on the system used and the therapist's judgment. The difference in benefit, is that enemas hyperinflate the muscles of the large intestine, weakening natural peristalsis over time, whereas a colonic is designed to exercise those muscles and gradually strengthen them over time.

A little OT, but WOW, did you read that email from someone they added at the bottom.

I don't buy this at all, sorry. The only time I am about to stick a tube that far up my colon is for a colonoscopy, if and when I need it. And hopefully I will be sedated for that. Then again, I do not have problems in this area, maybe I would think differently if I did.

I keep thinking of that Margaret Cho DVD where she talks about driving home from her colonic......ewwww

I read that email at the bottom as well. I guess that person must come from a "Holistic" perspective. Medical vs. Holistic/Alternative....there will always be two sides......

I have to disagree, my gastrointerologist said they are very good for you.
where the danger could lay is, You just need to find a place where many go and that has a good reputation. Some are done right in homes, you dont need a license to do them, they are just technicians so becareful. Its like going to someones home to do electrolysis, you would hope they are insured, clean and have the right credentials.

To be sure call a chiropractor, they are into Holistic meds and Im sure would know who to rec in your area.
