coloring hair?

Is it ok to get your hair colored while pregnant?

I remember it not being ok years ago but I know of some ladies who got it done recently.

Re: coloring hair?

My doctor said it was okay. I waited until my second trimester though and only did it once so far.

Re: coloring hair?

I have the go-ahead to have my highlights redone tomorrow. BUT I'm 22 weeks. I wouldn't do it in the 1st trimester.

Re: coloring hair?

I am waiting out the haircoloring till the little one is here. It is probably fine, but I don't really need a color right now and I figure it will be a nice treat after the baby...

Re: coloring hair?

I had two female OB's tell me it was ok, and admitted that they colored their hair during their pregnancies. They did say that some people prefer to wait after the first trimester when the organs are already formed.

I am actually coloring right now. My house is well-ventilated, and I am careful to not get the color on my skin.

When this baby is born next week, I would like it to know that I am its mother, and not its grandmother, thank you very much! (I have had sgraggly greys since I am 25 Chat Icon )

My doc said after the 1st trimester, and it is safer to get highlights in a salon than the color in a box, because it touched your scalp and some people believe it can get into your blood??

Me too - but my dr said it was fine after the first trimester. I am too nervous to do it, so I'll just have to wait.

Re: coloring hair?

I am going to get highlights in a few weeks (after the 1st trimester)...

I already feel so gross about myself (bloated, weight gain, etc), that I HAVE to get my hair done.

I know a lot of people who have dyed their hair throughout their pregnancies and their DC are fine!

Re: coloring hair?

What about using Natural Instincts or something like that? I would think that's safer since it's not permanent, right?

Re: coloring hair?

This is the only thing DH has been so strict about, he got this idea in his head and he does not want me touching up my highlights! I'm trying to wait it out but I really am over due and at this point (25 weeks) I think I may just wait til baby arrives and treat myself.

We asked my doctor about this and he didn't say yes or no, just said they haven't done any studies on this and it's best to use vegetable based dyes, so I haven't had any highlights my whole pregnancy so far...I probably would give in but DH won't allow it lol
