Common Core Withdrawal bill filed in the NYS assembly!!
And earlier this week smithtown officially went against the state to formally challenge common core!
Its about time!

Filed, but will it pass? Doubt it! This state doesn't care about it's students, unfortunately! I could go on and on about their disgusting actions regarding children with IEPs and their HS diplomas, but I'll spare ya'll

I was happy to hear that my district, Three Village, is also challenging the Common Core Standards. I hope there are some big changes to come.
Speaking as a former teacher and a parent I think our educational system right now is honestly appalling. I don't think we're creating well rounded students anymore OR students who are even engaged and excited about learning and that's sad. A 7,8,9 ten year old child should not be so disenchanted already when it comes to school and learning. They also shouldn't be so stressed on a day to day basis.
Fingers crossed we see a swing towards the way things use to be. We are all well educated, professional, and successful adults..................our education couldn't have been that bad!! Enough with all of this Common Core and testing nonsense. I sure hope this bill passes.

Oh I hope this gets withrawn!!! I had the first night of KINDERGARTEN math and I swear I felt like I was a moron trying to figure out what the directions were.
Took me 15 minutes to dope it out and I'm still unsure whether DS did it right. Kindergarten math....I took AP Calculus and I'm stuck on Kindergarten math.

My neighbor had issues last night with second grade math - her DD was able to explain it to her but, it made no sense whatsoever.
There are tons of rumblings in our district right now and a lot of unhappy parents. Although I have 2 years until DS goes to school, it's depressing to me to see this - it sounds like school isn't fun anymore and kids don't have time for fun outside fo school with all the homework. Our district still has 1/2 day K as well.
