Common or unusual? esp if you run or workout hard
I've never heard anybody talk about it on here, but I was reading another message board & people were saying this happens to them so it made me wonder...
During the 1-2 weeks before my period starts, every time I work out (run usually), the first 10 minutes or so I'm fine, then I get this progressively worsening pain in my lower back & front, like a burning sensation along with cramps feeling like I'm constipated (but I'm not). It's SO awful & it forces me to stop & sit down & moan in pain. If I didn't stop working out, it just gets worse & worse, but once I stop working out, it goes away kinda quick (after like 5 minutes of agony!)... then I can continue my workout as if nothing happened & I feel great.
This has happened to me several times during races & it totally f*cks up my time because I have to stop for several minutes. I've never seen it happen to anybody else at a race & I was telling another female runner who never heard of such a thing. I've tried taking pain relievers/Midol before I work out & it doesn't help.
Does this happen to anyone else on here???? Any way to prevent it??? It's so incredibly annoying!!!!!!!

The only time I've ever had crippling pain in that region was when I was wearing a fuel belt. I think it was just too heavy and too much pressure. It literally stopped me and I was bent over in pain. It happened twice and then I had to take it off and walk home.

Happens to me! The first time I thought it was my kidneys and almost had DH take me to the hospital, but then, as you said, it went away kind of quickly.
Do you have endometriosis? I did a lot of research and happened across a few lines in a medical journal that said women with endo (which I have) will often feel this pain as a result of intense exercise.

Sometimes I get these same cramps - it really depends upon the type of food I eat.

I don't do high-impact exercise but have felt cramps when I ate too close to workout time. I had a cup of coffee and a banana, and not only do I get the cramps, I tend to burp too.
I changed my food schedule so I eat about an hour before I work out and it seems to have lessened.

Thanks for the responses. It doesn't feel like it has anything to do with food-- it happens regardless of what I ate or drank-- the only thing that's always a constant is that it ONLY happens the week (maybe 2) before my period (the PMS week)-- never during my actual period or the few weeks after. So I was thinking it might have something to do with the pms hormones-- now I'm thinking endo (or a similar problem) as someone suggested especially since most people on here haven't experienced this from exercise so it doesn't seem like a normal thing. It's unlike a regular cramp or twinge in your side, it's like the most intense period cramps I can imagine & I thought it was so weird that it would only be brought on by working out.
