Community Service Ideas Needed
I run a community service club at my school. We do a different activity every month and I REALLY like to stay away from fundraising money because the logistics of dealing with money, kids, and school districts is kind of a pain in the neck. It's a lot easier for me to "collect" items. I'm looking for some new things to add to the list. My other issue is that other clubs do community service as well (ie. toy drive) and I can't "take" their activity.
Here are some examples of what we do already: -NIKE Reuse a Shoe -Sight Night (eyeglass collection) -warm clothing drive -food drives -pet supply collection -Pennies for Patients (leukemia and lymphoma society)

Cell Phone Donation
At my school, there is a huge community service program called GIVE. Students volunteer at basically every local place (ie at the animal shelter they walk the animals, they are big sisters and brothers for the local boys and girls club, they attend events at the senior citizen home a few times a month) I know they do many more things as well, but I would have to look into the specifics.
Oh - they are also in charge of recycling paper products at my school.

I know the pediatric oncology department at Stony Brook could really use toys right now. They are inundated at the holidays, but pretty depleted now. I also run a community service club and I think we are going to start the school year with a toy drive.

Re: Community Service Ideas Needed
I work with people with disabilities. A lot of them are coming into the community from a nursing home setting for the first time since their injury, and need items to furnish their apartments. Everything from linens to furniture to air conditioners. There used to be funding for this from the state, but now we are being told we have to try "other resources" first. I am always looking for places like this to refer clients to.
Just a thought.
