company credit card...what are your thoughts...
What are your thoughts on having a company credit card, BUT, the bill is mailed directly to you. You submit receipts to accounting and then they cut you a check to use to pay the CC bill?
The company "gaurantees" the card...I guess that means if you fail to pay the bill, the company is still responsible for payment.
What are your thoughts?

I had that when I worked on Wall Street. I had no problems, and was always reimbursed before the bill was due. At the time I had a much higher limit than my personal credit card, and I was charging my airfare, hotels, etc.

Re: company credit card...what are your thoughts...
I had one offered at my last 3 jobs, but I never took them. I just didn't see the need since I don't have a large expense account.

Re: company credit card...what are your thoughts...
Is my name on the card, and does anyone else have access to the number? How do I know for sure that I am not liable for charges if the company refuses to pay? Those would be my main concerns.
ETA: I have never had one, so I am sort of clueless on how it works.

That's how it works at DH's company. I think that's the norm, too.
At my job, the CC bill is mailed here, not the individual, and it is paid by the company.

Was your personal credit effected? Is that account on your personal credit report?

Our company credit cards aren't guaranteed by anyone but the employee.
You can get one to charge company expenses, but the bills are your responsibility. We've had people leave & the cc companies went after them, not the company.

But, then technically, that isn't a company credit card. It's an employee's personal credit card, right?
(not being argumentative, just trying to figure out what's what)

Re: company credit card...what are your thoughts...
I have an Amex Corp. Card but the bill gets mailed to me at the office. I submit my expenses and I get a check with my paycheck.
I am responsible for the payments and my credit is linked to this card. I believe the company is just liable if you default on payments.

I had a "company" cc at the last university I worked for. Actually, two. No problems except once with Amex, b/c accounts payable took too long to pay it.

Re: company credit card...what are your thoughts...
We have a corporate AmEx for company expenses. They issue them for us b/c there is no limit and we can charge airfare and hotels easily, without worrying about our personal credit limit. The bills are sent to our homes and we are responsible for paying the bills after getting reimbursed from the company. It's under my name so it also affects my credit. Now that I have other AmEx accounts that I like better, I don't even use the corporate anymore. If I didn't pay the bill, I believe AmEx could come after me (name on the card) and my company (their name is on the card also).

Re: company credit card...what are your thoughts...
I also have a company Amex but it works a little different than yours. The card is in my name and gets mailed to my house. I submit all receipts and get the bill & receipts signed by my supervisor, then I give everything to accounting. Accounting automatically pays every bill every month because somehow it is linked to a bigger company account even though we all have our own personal cards. It is a must have for me because of a lot of last minute travel I must book, along with travelling overseas. I also use the card for conferences, industry meetings, business lunches.

Re: company credit card...what are your thoughts...
I would only want a company card if it worked like it did at my last job
the bill was sent to the office, the company paid it - and I signed off on the statement with what the $$$ was for
If I get one where I am now- I am fully reponsible and the bill is mailed to me- and it takes at least 3 to 4 weeks to be paid
so I use my own cards- but I can control which card I am using- generally I use my own Amex- but when I go away on business next week- i am bringing a different card- b/c I have a feeling it's going to take a long to get the money back- since basically the entire company is going- and last month I had to lay out the money out of my pocket to pay the bill

Re: company credit card...what are your thoughts...
I had something like this...but I ended up getting sccccreeewweeed each month. As I would pay the bill with whatever interest, submit my receipts and get paid only what the receipts said and not the interest.

same here but either way it's standard practice and I've had many corp cards over the years and never had a problem getting reimbursed. As long as you submit your expense reports in a timely manner you get the check and pay the bill.. what's more is that my corp amex gets miles and I linked it up to my personal acct..I get miles all of the place!!!!

Re: company credit card...what are your thoughts...
I have a company credit credit card.
The bill comes to me every month. I submit expenses twice a month and I check off a box that says "Remit to Credit Card". I then submit the receipts to a central processing office and I usually get an email alert from the credit card company when it is posted.
I was told if I don't make sure payment is current, it will affect my credit rating and also payment will be taken out of my paycheck and also my manager will be alerted.
I think it is a good policy.
