Completely inappropriate salary question
i have a friend from college who is a commercial actor. he's done burger king, AT&T, Captain Morgan, etc.
he's actually in the current hybrid commercial ( i think it's Ford?) where the friend pays for the gas and he pays for the food..
anyway, just curious if anyone in the know has any idea how much one gets paid for a commercial like that?
i always wonder if he is a "struggling actor" or if he actually makes a pretty penny!

Re: Completely inappropriate salary question
commerical actors do ok. I've heard anywhere from $500 to 7K for a commerical. For a company Ford, I'm sure he walked away with a couple of grand.

Re: Completely inappropriate salary question
We just had this conversation at work with one of my colleagues who is a former actor. He said that you get a flat fee and then you get royalties for each time its played on the television. So its money over a period of time.
I don't know any figures sorry.

Which one is he? The driver or the passenger?
ETA: Duh, I think you sort of answered that. He's the passenger!

Re: Completely inappropriate salary question
If it's a national spot... he makes a pretty hefty paycheck...
I used to work for a post production facility (television editing etc etc)
remember that pepsi commercial with shaquille o'neal in it... a little boy has a pepsi that shaq is trying to get... he looks at him and says "PLEEEEEEEEASE?"
there was something wrong with shaq's audio so the mixers grabbed a friend who was working in the shipping dept and asked him to say please... THREE TIMES... they used one of them.
he made 3000.00 That's 1000.00 per PLEASE.
and this was over 8 years ago....

I think Racheeee is right. The more it plays the more $ you make.
They were talking about that on Howard Stern b/c his fiance, Beth was on the NY Lottery commercial. They said everytime she saw the commercial they would look at each other say "cha ching".
Rach, do you remember the girl we knew who did the home hiv test commercial?

Re: Completely inappropriate salary question
It depends on the type of commercial, i.e. local or nation wide, how well known the actor is, if he or she is SAG or not. And a few other things. Voice over actors alone make ~$2000 a day, again depending on various factors. A friend of mine was on a nation wide commerical and made $100 K that year, off of one commercial.
~I work in the Entertainment industry. Working actors make a very good living, but the work is few and far between for the amount of actors out there.

That's right. My friend's husband is an actor. He was the lead in I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change for years. A couple of years ago he did the commercial for Prevacid with the old lady laying in bed saying "You have to sleep on an incline". Funny stuff. He was paid for the initial commercial then royalties every time the commercial was aired. Until he was replaced by Joe Namath in the commercial!

Re: Completely inappropriate salary question
Even though he may ahve gotten a lot of money for that sot, unless he's doing a LOT of work, he's probably still broke. Yeah, maybe he got a few grand for that commercial, but is he doing commericals every week?
I know a LOT of actors, VERY few of them make what we would consider decent money

my sister was in a Newsday commercial many years ago. My cousin was approached on the street and was asked a few questions about what newspaper she reads, then she was asked to come in to shoot a commerical, just a shot of her giving her unrehearsed "I LOVE NY NEWSDAY"type of blurb. well my cousin asked my sister to come along for moral support. so my sister was on the side cheering her on, and apparrently she was heard by the staff there being her loud, animated self, and SHE got the part instead they were like "uhmm, WHOOO is sHE ????
she did get paid the same way. It was so many years ago, so I dont remember figures. but it was something that came as a surprise to begin with and I remember it was pretty decent ! and that commercial played for a LONG time.
