Compression stockings?

Has anyone used compression stockings to try to reduce swelling? My legs, ankles and feet have been very swollen since Friday. My right foot and ankle are the most swollen. My mom mentioned getting compression stockings to try to help reduce the swelling.

I've been keeping my feet elevated and using ice packs at night. The swelling goes down almost completely by the morning, but we've been visiting daycares this week and I've been on my feet for a while. By the time I get into work, everything is very swollen again. If you've used compression stockings, did they help? Are there any issues with using compression stockings? Where did you get them?

Re: Compression stockings?

My Dr just gave me a 'scrip for them at my last visit. My feet and ankles are the same. They look best in the morning, but get worse as the day goes on. Regardless of how much I'm on them.

She said I had to get fitted for them and the scrip was for a surgical supply store in Bay Shore.

Re: Compression stockings?

I had to wear them for a few weeks this summer due to a rash and swelling in my legs. The doctor gave me a prescription for them and sent me to a special store to get measured.

I didn't want to wear them at ALL because it was the summer and so hot outside. However, they helped a lot and were definitely worth it. There were some days that I could not have functioned at all without them.

My sister also wore them during her 3rd pregnancy due to varicose veins and superficial blood clots. She says the same thing.

Talk to your doctor and get a prescription and referral for a good store (Mine is in Boston, so that won't help). There are different levels of compression, so your doctor can tell you which one you need and in what measurement. All of those things need to be correct in order for the stockings to work properly.

Re: Compression stockings?

I had to wear them during my hospital stay while pg with DD.
I believe you can get them at a surgical/medical supply store.
