Computer people I have a ?
My sisters. Brother and I want to get my Mom a lap top for Xmas. My Mom lives in Ireland and I know I can get a better price here. My question is can I get a lap top here and use it there. What would I need to get? I am clueless when is comes to this stuff.

I am not sure about all the legalities. But I remember when you order from dell it specifically asks you if you are going to export this out of the US.
But meanwhile we can export all our jobs out of the country for computers. go figure!

Yes I know that Dell asks if you are going to export but you could also probably just have it shipped directly to her.
The only thing I can think of that will be different is the power cord and possibly the power supply in the laptop. I would get Dell on the phone rather than ordering online to make sure you are getting the right thing for her.

Also...the keyboard might be different. I know in the UK, they have different keyboard settings....not sure if this is true of Ireland also.

The Keyboard would be different because it would have the Euro symbol on it. I recently worked on a computer that was owned by someone who lives in Rome - talk about a wierd feeling when looking at Windows.
I also think you would need a power adapter, because Europe doesn't use 120V. I'm not sure what's used in Europe, but I hope to travel there one day and find out.

Part of the problem is that you cannot export software outside the US. It has to do with the encryption settings.

Re: Computer people I have a ?
I'm really not sure, but I had some Irish students working for me a few summers ago. They ordered a digital camera here, had it sent to me and I brought it over to them with no problem. Other than an adapter for the power, they had no problems using it. Last week we had a large group stay at my hotel from New Zealand, they had no problems using their lap tops.
