Computer Repair
I am looking to have my computer repaired. I think something is wrong with the operating system. Can somebody recommend a good company/person to use?

Re: Computer Repair
I always have my FH do it.
(Knew that engineering degree would pay off someday!)
if it's the just the OS, it's pretty simple. Just back up all your files and reinstall the OS.

Re: Computer Repair
Wow I guess in this case marrying an autobody mechanic didn't do me much good. LOL. Thanks for the post but you make it sound much easier than I think it is. I have no clue what that means. Can he recommend somebody that would be able to come to my home and fix it? Thank you again for replying.

Re: Computer Repair
I don't think he knows anyone. His field isn't really PC repair, it's programming.
Where do you live?
What is the problem, what makes you think it is your OS? Do you still have phone tech support on your machine? They walked me through it a few times.

Re: Computer Repair
Or you can call the Geek Squad, found at most BestBuy locations...they can come to you, or you can bring your PC to them. The prices are pretty reasonable.

Re: Computer Repair
I am getting tons of error messages, it runs really slow, and now my newest problem is my wireless internet connection. i am getting no connection whatsoever. I'm so confused. I know the last time I took my computer to Staples (pretty unhappy with them) they said it was the operating system when you get errors like that.

Have you tried to do a system restore? Do you have the original disks that came w/the computer?
Otherwise, I highly recm'd the GeekSquad at Best Buy! I went in w/my computer and I was out in a matter of 40 mins...$60.

geeksqaud is way overrated and priced
what operating system (windows xp?) how old/new is your machine?
wireless connection could be because of signal and not the computer being silly.
do you have a method of backing up your data (burn them to cd?)

Re: Computer Repair
I'm getting tons of error messages when I sign on and it runs really slow. When I'm online (with wireless connection) I have a low signal which is usual but now its says I can't connect even with the low connection.

Re: Computer Repair
My first suggestion would be to defrag. If you haven't done this in a while it will take some time.
Go to Start --> Programs --> Accessories --> System Tools --> Defrag
After that is complete you should do a Virus scan.
Reinstalling the OS should be a last resort.
Also, is your hard drive making different noises than usual? If it is, your hard drive could be dieing and none of what I suggested would do any good.

Great Advice. Also, try to backup the files(on a CD) that you want to keep just in case.
