Concerned - with photos...UPDATE at bottom with photo

My cat has this blister on his mouth. I'm not sure where it came from or how he got it. Anyone ever see their cat with this? My other cat had it once and I waited a week and it went away on its own. But I'm wondering what it is and if there's a way to prevent it.

Thanks! Chat Icon

Re: Concerned - with photos...

He is one fine looking kitty.

I'm not sure. I have never seen anything like that on my two. Does he sit in the sun a lot? I'm just wondering if it could be a cold sore kind of thing? Does he scratch it? I would keep an eye on it and take him to the vet if it gets worse. Chat Icon

BTW what kind of camera do you have, those are such clear, close up pictures, they're lovely.

Maybe he bit his lip or is allergic to some of his food?

It could be a cyst or even a pimple. I would ask the vet, better to be safe.

I just had another idea, is your vet on e-mail? You could e-mail the pictures to them - just a thought

Re: Concerned - with photos...

It could be a type of respiratory illness (easily cured). Take him to the vet, better safe than sorry.

ETA: you said your other cat had it once- how long ago?

He's an indoor cat, but I suppose he can be laying in the window in the sun? Not really sure of that. He's more of a couch kinda guy. It doesn't look like he touches it at all. What's funny is, and I'm wondering if this has something to do with it. He's constantly "chewing" on his paws, by the pads...and he seems to be "ripping" something out all the time? The other day I found a piece of his shedded nail IN HIS LIP sticking out. Very sharp. I swear, I think he's got OCD. Every Spring and sometimes in the Fall I have to take him to the vet to get a cortisone shot because he's constantly scratching himself and causing big cuts on his head. The doctor says he's got seasonal allergies like humans do and he just scratches insanely and ends up hurting himself. The cortisone helps with the allergies.

It looks like its starting to heal a little, but if by midweek he's not looking better he's going to the vet, whether he likes it or not Chat Icon

And as far as my camera, its a Canon Digital Rebel XT. He's not really a fan of it...Chat Icon

And here's a much more handsome shot of him...being all cute and cuddly wanting me to pick him up and kneading on the bed because he's feeling affectionate...

I guess it's possible that he bit his lip? That sounds like an interesting theory...

You know, I have no idea even if my vet has an email address! Maybe I should call them to find out. Good idea, thanks!

My other cat had it about a year and a half ago or so. I used to get it when he was trying to get to the nipples of my girl cat and was sucking on her all the time like a lunatic. Not that he was getting any milk out of her or anything.

Yes, I will probably take him to the vet if he's no better by mid-week. Poor kitty Chat Icon

Re: Concerned - with photos...

My cat had the same thing a few years ago. Got it 2-3 times until we figured out it was an allergic reaction to one kind of treat we fed him every soft often.
We do not give him those treats anymore and it has never come back.

Wow, I think I just opened a new bag of treats...that's amazing. I don't think he's had these before. Thank you!

Re: Concerned - with photos...

my cat had the same thing. It turned out that my FIL was giving the cat potato chips and it was a reaction to the salt. So we had to give him some meds for a few days and then it went away.

My cat had something similar and it was feline acne, she had spots like that on her chin and lips during her sort of teenaged years. You just need to get some scrub, like Hibiclens and keep the area clean.

Thanks, Jen. I'm wondering if he was allergic to something. It looks like its gone now, maybe there a little bit.
