Concussion?!?! What do I look for?

Please help me!!!!!

OMG!!!!!!!! I am a wreck writing this! He's just so fast!!!!!!! He's only 8 1/2 months!!!!

He was sitting and I was encoraging him to switch positions. His legs got tangled and he fell back, HARD, onto a hard toy. At least he wasn't standing right? Am I just freaking for no apparent reason?

How can I tell if my toddler has a concussion?

Look for one or more of these symptoms following any trauma to the head:
• loss of consciousness

• headache

• dizziness

• confusion

• nausea

• vomiting

• irritability

• drainage, clear or bloody, from his nose, mouth, or ears

Olivia sits on the floor all the time and falls back and i sometimes hear a loud bang if the pillow is not around.. what toy was it.. ? i finally retook the pnp out and i put her in there for saftey reasons.

as for Michael, just mke sure he is alert , aware and responsive. give him some milk see if he will eat. put him in the jumeroo see if he will bounce.

Re: Concussion?!?! What do I look for?

When my first dd started sitting up i was super excitted and didnt even think of the possiblity of falling back. Then she swung herself back fast and boom.. she really smacked down hard. She was crying and i just picked her up and huged her. That was weeks ago, I just make sure to put pillow now.

Im sure your ds is okay, just keep an eye on him.

Re: Concussion?!?! What do I look for?

It's so tough. He's sleeping now and I keep looking at him and have the alarm on the crib. It's his normal nap time, so I think it's not from being lethargic. If he sleeps more than 30 minutes, then it's strange.

Oddly enough, it was his favorite toy (Beseides his stuffed lion) that he fell on. The toy was on it's side.

He's fallen before and hit the floor and that's hard enough. Just the angle he hit the toy wasn't good. I appreciate your slap back into reality! Chat Icon

Listen, I have been there! So many times, it's INSANE! lol kids are going to be kids. Don't make yourself nuts girl!

Just so you know that I've been there, here are a few incidents that have occured in my house. These are the ones I can remember off the top of my head! My kids have fallen off of stairs, chairs, beds, changing tables, out of their stroller, off their bikes, off the couch, in the bathtub, off their highchair, collidedi nto each other, gotten trampled into by someone on a swing where my DS almost fractured his eye socket (he was a year old), ran into a door knob (another black eye), gotten stuck in the toilet, leg stuck in the crib slats, stuck in a toybox, locked in a bathroom.. Those are the ones that are still fresh in my mind. lol

Re: Concussion?!?! What do I look for?

Trust me from personal experience, if he hits his head you will know something isnt right immediately. DS has hit his head so many times I lost count. There much more resilient than we think.

Re: Concussion?!?! What do I look for?

Don't worry- they are tough-

My DD fell down a flight of hardwood stairs- and I mean tumbled hard hitting three or four steps it was terrifying. She promptly fell asleep after it happened so we were terrified. They said to wake her every two hours to make sure she was ok and she was fine.

I am sure he is okChat Icon
