Coney Island or Atlantis Aquariuum?
Looking online and wondering where to take DD on Monday? Ive never been to the Riverhead Atlantis, is it big? I dont want to drive all the way out there and be disappointed. I always went to Coney Island as a kid and would love to take DD there but not sure if it was probably bigger because I was a child. Also there is so much more to do in CI, Nathans, boardwalk, sights etc. Any suggestioins or info please? Thanks so much!!!

I've never been to the Coney Island Aquarium (), but I went to Atlantis last weekend. It is very nice & the kids enjoyed it, but I did think it was pretty small.

Coney Island all the way. I think Atlantis is a complete rip off.

I just went to the Coney Island one and I thought it needed some serious updating. I love the Riverhead one.

Re: Coney Island or Atlantis Aquariuum?
I've been to both several times (we have a membership to both). IMHO, go to whichever is the shortest drive for you. They each have their own good points and bad points. For example - Riverhead has a stingray touch tank, and another touch tank, but Coney Island doesn't have the stingray touch tank, and the last 4 times I've been there the regular touch tank has been closed. On the other hand, DD loves jellyfish, and Riverhead doesn't have any, but Coney Island does. Both have sharks and a sea lion show, as well as indoor tank exhibits.
In the winter I would definitely pick Riverhead over Coney Island b/c 97% of the exhibits are in one enclosed area and there is virtually no need to go outside (which makes it seem really really small, although I don't think it's that small).

I've also been to both and this is a perfect answer.

Re: Coney Island or Atlantis Aquariuum?
We took DS to Atlantis last summer and he loved the interactive exhibit they have outsied in the back. I think it supposed to be a tidal basin. We also went on the eco tour boat which was IMO was the best part of the day. These exhibits are not really for toddlers.
Coney Island also has the circus going on. We plan on hearding out there next month.

Re: Coney Island or Atlantis Aquariuum?
If you are looking just based on size, then NY Aquarium is bigger than the Riverhead aquarium. It's much smaller in Riverhead but like PP said if you are looking for more hands on then Riverhead is good for that. Again, assuming the attractions are open. They also have a "put you feet in water with crabs" outside.
The Riverhead aquarium is VERY expensive.

Re: Coney Island or Atlantis Aquariuum?
Coney Island's aquarium is fun but it is pretty small. The nice thing is if you want to make a small trip out of it you can stroll the boardwalk, check out the new amusement park they opened up (Luna Park), grab some Nathan's. But the aquarium itself is small and can be done very quickly. I go there often since we live close by but I would probably be disappointed if I traveled far just for the aquarium.

Re: Coney Island or Atlantis Aquariuum?
Thanks so much Ladies!! We decided on Coney Island. There is more to do besides just the aquarium and headed there in an hour. So craving Nathan's and a nice slow stroll at Luna Park... if I can hold up being 8 months preggo. Will update the day later, thanks again!
