Confused about E2 levels in IVF cycle
Hello,
This is my first cycle doing IVF and since I have PCOS (and through experience with IUI cycles), I can easily be cancelled for overstimulating. I have taken 6 nights of injections and I have several follies (like 15-20 on each side). At today's sono, I had 2 14's but the rest (that were measurable) were around 10-12 in size. The problem is that my e2 level went from 557 to over 1,000 overnight. So, now I am just very concerned that my e2 levels will go up too fast and not give the follies enough time to mature.
They are telling me that 1,000 is high, but I've heard of woman in the thousands, so I am kind of confused as to where the e2 can go to. They also mentioned that it is a possibility that they might retrieve this cycle, freeze, and then transfer in a later cycle (if my e2 gets too high). I just want to do it already. I don't want it to drag out any longer.
Can anyone offer any insight?
Thanks,

I don't know about that specific question but I do know that for each mature follie your estrogen should go up roughly 2-300. So, to me, it doesn't sound that high. On Clomid with 2 follies my E2 was 438. Sorry if that wasn't too helpful.

Re: Confused about E2 levels in IVF cycle
It depends on how high your E2 gets and then how high they stay regarding retrieval and transfer. I had 49 eggs retrieved and my E2 was around 4000 two days before trigger. They stopped my injectables and my E2 went down so they went ahead with retrieval. They monitored me for hyperstimulation and thought I was going to be okay so went ahead with the transfer. The day after the transfer I went into full-blown OHSS. Needless to say, the embies didn't stick and it was probably a wasted transfer.
So, your Dr. will monitor you, but please don't push for a transfer if they are afraid of you overstimming. You are much better off waiting a cycle and doing a frozen transfer. Someone on here just recently did that and ended up PG - I can't remember what her name was but you may try searching.
Good luck!!!

Re: Confused about E2 levels in IVF cycle
Thank you both for responding. I know OHSS is the LAST thing I want to happen. They have me on such a low dosage that I'm just scared that if they can't do it without cancelling me now, then they won't ever be able to.
I started off with 75ius of follistim and 1 repronex (75). For the 7 days that I have stimmed so far, I've only had follistim 2 of those days.
Well, I'm off for blood and sono and to see what happens today.
Thanks again.

Re: Confused about E2 levels in IVF cycle
Thanks!!!
Yesterday's blood showed e2 at 1800, up from 1100 the day before. So far it doesn't look too bad. I had lots of follies. There were a couple in the 14mm-17mm range and a lot in the 10-13 range. She seems to think I'll be triggering tomorrow or Thursday. Will I lose those big ones?
