Congestion

Is there anything I can take for nasal congestion? I am 20w6d.
I have allergies and have been taking Claritin for that. i *think* I can take Zyrtec, which always worked better for me.

but I am not sure if this is allergies or a head cold but I cannot breathe... at all... i blow my nose and it comes right back.. worse. I am miserable right now.

I have a doc appt tomorrow anyway and will ask her what I can take, but i figured if there was something i could pick up on lunch that i KNEW was ok, I could get a head start...
Nasal spray?
Meds?
ANYTHING would be appreciated at this time!

Congestion

I just did the saline spray. I have been congested and had bloody noses since like the day I found out I was pregnant- awful. 24 weeks and according to DH it's getting worse and I snore (which I highly doubt- he snores! Lol) I find the saline just gives my nose a good clean!

that's what i was afraid of haha I have the saline spray, and was using that when I was completely dried out and bloody nose etc, now I am blowing it, so its not dried out, and i can blow it.. (itll be clear for 0.3 seconds then stuff up more than before lol), but its completely not clearing up at all....

I *think* Tylenol cold is okay, but I'd wait for the okay from your doctor first. Sorry you're feeling lousy! Chat Icon

Re: Congestion

Unfortunately it's just a part of pregnancy. The increased hormones cause excess blood flow in your body, which causes the nasal cavity to swell. I've had extreme congestion since my first trimester. Saline spray helps a little, especially right before bed. You can take some allergy meds but I didnt find them helpful at all. And at night I use the nasal strips which help slightly. But overall, nothing really truly helps and I've just sounded like I've had a 9 month long cold or sinus infection Chat Icon

ETA: mine also got progressively worse throughout the pregnancy. By 26 weeks DH moved to the living room couch because my congestion got so bad that I began snoring so loudly that it would wake us both up. And when I'm not snoring, I'm just breathing very labored and heavy. God, I cant wait for this to be over...Chat Icon Chat Icon

All of this. I hated this pregnancy symptom. Always had to breath out of my mouth. It made me so uncomfortable. Like a 9 month cold that never goes away....til baby was born lol
