Connecticut School of Broadcasting in Westbury
Does anyone know about this school? Is it a scam? My husband went for a tour and audition the other night and really liked it. He got invited back. It's a 16 week program. They have studios set up there. There was a list of alumni and a list of where their graduating students find work and it was an extensive list.
He is reading some negative things about it online. It's something he has always been interested in doing and has experience with all of the equipment through DJing and podcasts. This would be an amazing way to get into the industry, but it's not cheap, so we're trying to figure out if it's a scam.
Anyone know anything about it?
TIA

I don't know much about it, but I don't think it's a scam. An ex of mind attended several years back and I heard that he was able to get a job in sportsradio, not sure what he was doing though. I also think there is a dj in NY that went there - I feel like I used to hear him do their advertisements. HTH

Re: Connecticut School of Broadcasting in Westbury
DH has worked in the radio industry for about 10 years. He has two friends that went to CSB (DH went to Nassau). He said it's a good way to learn the ropes if you don't have access to a station, but it does not guarantee you a job. Also, they won't tell you how you are doing, if you are improving, etc. Basically anyone can go as long as their check clears. It did go bankrupt awhile back also.
It is not easy getting a well paying job in radio. DH works more in production now, but DJs here and there on different stations. But they don't pay well. And they are cutting people left and right everyday. DH has lost several colleagues to cost-cutting measures and hasn't gotten a raise in three years. But DH didn't attend CSB, so he's going by what his friends have said and what he's heard from other people in the industry.
If you have any other questions about radio, feel free to FM me and I'll pass them along to DH. Good luck!
