Constipation
Sofia (2 years old) is constipated.
She is a very good eater, and i've never had a problem with her eating her fruits and veggies.
But this episode of constip. has me a little worried. I saw her straining to go, and when i went to change her, she only had a little 'ball' of doo doo in her diaper... and she was clearly uncomfortable and didn't want to sit down... i have already given her prunes and raisins, plus water. what else can i do to get her 'going' again. it breaks my heart to see her in pain.

Re: Constipation
Pear juice seems to have helped Claire recently, but if all else fails an infant stool softener should help

Re: Constipation
As gross as this is, did you warm the jar of prunes??... Mix them with a little cereal, oatmeal, so it doesnt bind her, and make it warm... If that doen't work, try the pear juice... apple juice used to get my son going..
Good Luck.. If it comes down to it I also agree about the infant stool softener.. Good Luck!
hope your little one feels better sooN!

Re: Constipation
You could also try some Karo Syrup. Usually anything sugary will help.

Re: Constipation
I have had to use suppositories when it is too bad and ONCE the pediatrician told me to give him an enema. It was heart breaking but it worked like a charm. Just be careful- when it comes out it is like a missile.

Re: Constipation
Apples are good for easing constipation also. I know when worked in a Pediatric office in college we always told parents to avoid them when a child had diarrhea so you might want to try that too. You can always try the old thermometer and vasaline trick if she will let you. I hope Sofia goes soon, the poor thing
