Does anyone's DC get constipated from milk? If so what do you do?

Re: Constipation from milk?

My boys have been really constipated lately, I dont know if it is from the milk, because they NEVER had a problem, I know dairy can cause it. I tried to limit the yogurt or cheese and bananas to every other day.
I usually give them prunes, and a lot of water (which they LOVE)

Re: Constipation from milk?

Jess,
YES milk can definately cause constipation. Aly has been prone to constipation her whole life. When we switched to milk, it got even worse. At that point, she was getting 3 8oz bottles of milk a day...the Dr suggested keeping her at 2 bottles (8 oz.) a day and just add a yogurt ot cheese in there also, soo much better ever since!!! She cant have more than the 16 oz of milk a day or she gets all backed up. Even if I give her too much dairy in one day (yogurt and too much cheese) it gets her screwy too....Try backing off a few ounces of his milk if hes having issues.

I give her prune juice and a lot of water to help the problem, or if its really bad, a jar of baby food prunes does the trick too....

Re: Constipation from milk?

Thanks. He will not take prune juice. He will not drink any juice. I tried really watering it down and the ped even suggested mixing it with him milk. Still won't drink it. He drinks water. I tried the jar of prunes too and he will not eat it. Over the weekend I did take a bottle away and I'm subsituting it with a snack instead. I've limited the cheese so I am thinking its the milk.
