Consultation at LI-IVF *Update*
After a year of TTC and no BFP, my doctor referred me to a specialist. After doing some research (including here) I decided to go to LI-IVF for a consultation. I'll be seeing Dr. Brenner at the Lake Success office. I have all of my labwork from the past year to bring. Can anyone tell me what I can expect at the first appointment?
Update: So my appointment went well. Everyone in the office was very friendly and so well-organized. I had a sonogram and the dr. is almost certain that I have PCOS. He's just awaiting the lab results. He's also going to have me start on Provera again and go from there with all of the tests that follow once I get a period. Now on to researching PCOS since a lot of what he said went in one ear and out the other!

Re: Consultation at LI-IVF
I didn't go to that particular doctor or office, but at my first visit my doctor just basically took a history (for about an hour or so) and scheduled an appointment for a full physical and blood work, but since you already have your blood work I guess you can expect a physical and then you have to wait for you period to come again and day 3 it'll all start.
Good luck to you and I hope your journey is short and sweet!

Re: Consultation at LI-IVF
It really depends on what your issues are, and what protocol they decide to follow. But as Lauren said, yes the first appointment you should both be there, and the RE will go over your history and bloodwork to determine the best course of action.
Best of luck - you are embarking on a highly emotional but hopefully successful journey!! You can get lots of support and info from the ladies on this board... but also research, research, reasearch!!

So my husband is supposed to go with me? I hadn't planned on that.

yes you should both be there. I think at my clinic we had to both be there. They will ask many questions about both of your medical history's.
Unless you get lucky with timing, there usually is no exam on the 1st visit.

Re: Consultation at LI-IVF
My husband didn't come with me for the first appt, because I didn't know either. It was fine, because we did a history and he set up some additional tests for both of us and talked about an initial plan. After we completed the tests we met with the Dr again and my DH came. At this meeting we came up with our current plan.
Best of luck!

Re: Consultation at LI-IVF
I had my consultaion with Dr. B also, but in the Melville office.
He wants to meet both of you, so if DH can make it, please have him go. He tool a picture of us at the first meeting to put a name to a face when he calls (yes, he's called himself with bloodwork and any results)
I had bloodwork, and an internal sono done that day. I had AF, but he doesn't care.
He's very nice, very thorough and by the book.

Re: Consultation at LI-IVF
Hm I thik I had a sono the first visit too. And no DH doesn't HAVE to be there but it does make it better - otherwise you will have to have more or less the same visit again with DH present. Also if this is your first RE visit, it helps for DH to know what is going on.

Re: Consultation at LI-IVF
I am seeing Dr. K at LIIVF and DH didn't come with me to the first appointment. They would like it, but it's not necessary. He spoke with me for a while, went over my prior history (I had been to a different RE and had the records), took a picture of me, did a sono and exam and scheduled me for more bloodwork and an HSG. You should plan on DH going the second time if he can't come the first. Good luck, I like this practice and I hope you feel the same. I also hope this is a short, short journey for you!

Re: Consultation at LI-IVF
Thank you all so much for the info! My DH is working it out so he can leave work early (he had asked if I wanted him to be there when I first made the appointment, but I didn't think it was necessary)! I've been pretty calm about everything thus far, so hopefully my experience will continue to be ok (but brief).

Re: Consultation at LI-IVF
big, big dr. brenner fan here!!! i went through ivf with dr. brenner at the lake success office and i am expecting twins right now! i found the whole office to be great and helpful and kind.
like everyone said, it's probably better if dh can go for history and blood and so dh is hearing the same things you are hearing. but don't stress if dh can't get off work early, you will be going MANY other times!!
best of luck with everything!!

Re: Consultation at LI-IVF
I didn't use that practice but my DH did come with me. I was afraid the Dr would say something important I would forget...lol I had perfect timing because my appointment was on CD3 so they did a sono and I started on Clomid that day.
Good luck!!!!!!!!!
