Contract or inspection, which comes first???
Ok, I'm hearing all of these different things and I'm getting really confused.
In NY, do you sign the contract first or get the inspection? Our lawyer told DH to have the inspection first.
DH is going away for a week on Thursday so this all couldn't have happened at a worse time!

I had the offer approved this weekend, and have inspector going in tomorrow...then contracts down the road.

We had our offer accepted Fri on a FSBO and she's a little weird. She told DH if we had the house inspected that she couldn't accept any other offers... I thought that was the same thing once the contract was signed as well (pending the inspection) but, I'm new to this.
Cross your fingers everything goes well, we love this house so much and it's perfect for us!

Inspection first
only because - god forbid something is terribly wrong with the house and you have already signed the contracts, it would not be a good situation to be in

You can also have your atty draw up a contract contingent on a satisfactory inspection

it depends, if you go to contract prior to inspection, the contract would be written up accordingly, so you'd still have an out if the inspection found issues.

That's what we were planning on doing until we spoke to our attorney today who suggested we do the inspection first because if we need to back out, we wouldn't have to pay the legal fees.
This whole thing has been going really fast, we found out about the house on Thurs, saw it Thurs night, made an offer and it was accepted Fri!

We just did our inspection today and you should definately do the inspection first. It also gives you more bargaining power!
