Contractor
Hi,
Looking to have some work done on our house and trying to pick from a few estimates. Has anyone used a general contractor for roofing, siding and windows as opposed to a more specialized company like Brothers Aluminum, King Quality or Unified?
If anyone has experience with Matland Construction I'd love to hear about that as well.
TIA

Re: Contractor
And I want to hop on to this thread because we are looking for a good general contractor as well- to possibly rebuild a few outer walls in our house and redo the windows in those walls etc.
But contractors scare the crap out of me- so many horror stories.
So before we even think of moving forward, I want to see if anyone can recommend a really good one that is reliable.
OP-sorry to hijack but I figured maybe we both can get some good ideas from here!

Contractor
I used Bruce Ahmes contracting about 7 years ago to put vinyl siding around my house and was satisfied. I found him as I was driving somewhere and his company was adding a extension to someones house so I stopped to talk to the owner and he said he was happy with the work so that is how I came to know about him.

Re: Contractor
We used Brother Aluminum for our house - we also did siding, windows, gutters, everything at the same time.
I met with several contractors and they were hands down the best price for the quality we requested. Others may have beat their price but quality was not there.

Re: Contractor
My general contractor did my bathroom, basement, laundry room, roof and right now is finishing my siding, windows and porch. Once I get my permit, he'll be doing my extension. His name is Brett from Full House Design in Wantagh. Tell him Diana sent you! :) 516-417-7670

Thanks! I really like that they are Master Elite Certified for the roof. I'm trying to decide between them and a contractor that uses another type of shingle and can throw it a bit more. This decision is stressing me out. LOL.

Did you find either easier/better to work with?

I would not let a certification sway you. That just means the contractor can afford to write a check to the manufacturer. Check references and view their work.

King Quality was much easier to work with. We had major problems with Brothers, particularly on the quality of their work.
