Cool Mist/Warm Mist Humidifier
What's the difference (besides the obvious)? Are they used for the same things - cold/congestion?
Thanks!!

Re: Cool Mist/Warm Mist Humidifier
Cool Mist is the one you want for colds. When they have croup, bronchitis, bronchiolitis, RSV...that's what I was instructed to use.
As they gasp for air, the air isn't actually getting into their lungs because the passages are swollen. The cold part reduces the inflammation in the lungs allowing them to breathe easier.
I've never used a warm mist humidifier, nor even in the dead of winter when croup comes, have I ever been instructed to use it. It's always the cold mist.

Re: Cool Mist/Warm Mist Humidifier
I didn't know the benefits of one vs the other until reading the post above, but I do know that they say you have to be really careful if you have a warm-mist, to make sure it's cleaned really well all the time, since bacteria breeds in warm environments, you wouldn't want to put germs into the air b/c of the warmth. So we're getting a cool-mist one for DD's room.

another thing to consider is that if you get the warm mist it will be full of hot water that can hurt your DC if it spills. i was always told that there arent really any differences between the two, but the cool mist is safer.

Re: Cool Mist/Warm Mist Humidifier
Thanks so much for the responses!
This stinks!! I registered for a warm mist humidifier, not even realizing... I think it had the best reviews on the BRU website. I only used it for DS once, but threw the box away so I can't even return it!!
Can anyone recommend their cool mist humidifier?
Thanks!!
