Cost of Additions? $150/sq ft?
is this right? an addition about 200 square feet will cost $30,000? it seems awfully high. i didn't get a quote but this is what everyone is telling me. might not be worth it for only an extra 200 feet of space. input?

I am not sure if this helps but we went from a small cape, to a 4 bed, 3.5 bath colonial, 3 floor extension. demo, foundation, framing, siding, windows, roofing, front door, was 175k
that is not including anything else

Re: Cost of Additions? $150/sq ft?
I'm having work done, and I've had 3 contractors come in. I haven't gotten their full estimates yet, but none of them like to give a square footage estimate, especially for adding on to an existing house. There are too many variables.
I would contact a contractor and just get an estimate. With only one estimate, you can get a decent idea of what it will actually cost. If you then decide to go ahead with it, then get more estimates.

Give or take but yeah it's typically about $150 a square foot, especially since that's a small addition.
If you shop it around you might be able to get it cheaper. Or if you go a larger room it may end up being cheaper.
But 30k will probably be the average you get in quotes.

Re: Cost of Additions? $150/sq ft?
I think it depends on what is going into the extension. I have received quotes for about $100 a sq ft for a family room extension. I know if you are talking about a master bedroom/bathroom extension, then the costs are much higher.

yea, it would be a family room extension
i think $100 per square foot might be a better amount in my head b/c $30000 for an extra 200 sq feet seems like a lot of money

Re: Cost of Additions? $150/sq ft?
Plumbing is $$, so if it's a non-wet room, the cost will be much less. The general $150 estimate is usually for an entire house, which includes a few bathrooms, and a kitchen. Most of those rooms also need tile, which costs more than carpet.
