It was just to make sure all aspects of the decision were thought through.

I did. It was a requirement I had to fulfill before I could start. It wasn't a big deal honestly and I was so nervius over it. Basically we just spoke about how long we were trying for, have we thought about how we would feel if it didnt work and did we discuss how many times we would try until we looked into other options. There is no wrong answers it was just to get us talking and make sure we understood the emotional toll it could take on both of us.

Re: Counseling b4 IVF

I think my issue with it was that it was REQUIRED and not just recommended.

Re: Counseling b4 IVF

I really really don't want to go. If I felt I needed it then I would go...obviously everyone on here has gone through every possible outcome over and over..why do I have to tell a stranger that. AND pay her $95 for it...annoyed!

Re: Counseling b4 IVF

You have to go close to your start date so I'm going on the 9th at 6pm in Plainview. She was flexible with my schedule at least. I'll let you know how it went. ugh

I felt the therapy session was intrusive, as well. I also thought it was not necessary.

Re: Counseling b4 IVF

We saw a woman on northern blvd, I think it was Manhassat (someone with a Z) I didn't find her intrusive at all. She just asked us basic questions and made sure we considered all different scenarios. I didn't mind it, neither did DH. Good luck!

Re: Counseling b4 IVF

For us, it was never required. I know first hand the experience, emotions, struggle, tension, pain, anxiety, joy, excitement that comes with IVF. IMHO it's not a terrible idea to speak with a therapist regarding the emotional rollercoaster that's to come but I understand the hesitation. It should be a personal decision and not a requirement nor a payment.

LI IVF requires this. DH and I went to a therapist in the Massapequa area who took our insurance rather than using their recommended therapists. FM me if you want more info.
